1. He essentially has Ranged and Sentinel written on it.
2. He helps establish Hammer and Anvil strategies.
3. He has some awesome interactions with shadow cards and undefended attacks. (unfortunately not legal anymore)
I'd call this card solid. He can help out in a wide variety of small ways, at a low cost.
One of the worst, IMO, allies in Spirit. 1/5
Sure, post nerfing he isn't going to get as much action.
