I really like this guy.
And obviously, he's just going to get better and better as we get more Mounts. In a multi-sphere Rohan deck, he seems like a shoe-in.
Pair him up with some Rivendell Minstrels to fetch the resource songs and you can start spreading out the bonuses pretty quick. And Love of Tales obviously works well here.
Agreed. You can make Aragorn a 5/3/3 if you get Celebrian's Stone and a mount on him. Or Amarthir a 1/4/4 with a mount and an engaged enemy. Or Oin a 3/3/1 with a mount and enough dwarves. And Gandalf can get 3/3/4 with Shadowfax and Narya.
I like the way you think
Amathiul is one of my favorite heroes, and if I attach Arod (currently only tactics/leadership mount not restricted) + Raiment of war to him, I can have a 1/5/5/5 hero, as long as Elfhelm is on board and I have an enemy engaged. Could be very useful along with ways to ready him such as Cram. I could certainly make a different and more powerful combo with Rohan war horse or Armored destrier, but I kinda like the efficiency Raiment of war gives to Amarthiul...
Yea, with those kind of stats Amathiul can do whatever you want - for combat. If you aren't using traps to get the benefits from Ama, then you could use the new Armored Destrier to help mitigate the shadow card threats in defending every round.
