Does his ability of -2 defense apply during his attack? So if he is attacking a creature with 2 defense, he ignores it?
What sense it would make otherwise?

I just heard differently and wanted to confirm.
His ability only works during a range attack, so unfortunately it will not work when an enemy is engaged with you. It only works when doing a ranged attack to the staging area with Great Yew Bow or attacking an enemy engaged with another player. It will not work with Hands Upon the Bow, since that card does not say to make a ranged attack.

***Waiting for FAQ clarification***

Ehmm... why? Where is the uncertainty?
By the FAQ, ranged attack is an attack, made against an enemy engaged with another player. Not into staging area. But wording of Great Yew Bow states that attached character makes ranged attack. It confuses me. Whatever, golden rule.

... Great Yew Bow states that attached character makes ranged attack.

You've answered your own question.
Wasn't a question.

Wasn´t phrased like a question but a question is definately implied if you are waiting for Frequently Asked Questions to set the record straight on ranged.
I´ll stick to my previous assesment: there is no uncertainty here
I were looking into faq for this matter. And that's why I said in the end "Whatever, Golden Rule". Check the rulebook for it's meaning.

I know perfectly well what it means.
Still doesn´t change that at some point in this discussion you had a question implied. Later you supply the answer yourself.
Thus you answer your own question.
Which wasn't a question, regardless of what you convinced yourself. I can go on forever.

Ah yes you are perfectly correct... the implied question regarding the arrival of the next FAQ isn´t a question at all it is just you awaiting clarification on something that you were uncertain of (though no more), but in no regard would have ever considered questioning.
It makes perfect sense when you put it like that... or something.
Regardless this is now a debate on semantics. On which you are still wrong even if you do try to discredit my arguments by addressing an either perceived or made-up point of view that I am just "convincing myself" (implied; nobody else and you know it).
This is a board for discussing cards though and not semantics so give me your last bout and let´s be done with it.

I've played around with Bard a bit but I've never found a real home for him. If he could make his attack into Staging without Great Yew Bow he would be BAMF but as is...I'm not seeing it.

I would pretty much always prefer to run Legolas. Lower threat means you will have an easier time keeping things in Staging for when you can get the bow, Silvan trait means he synergizes with another Staging Area attacker (Haldir) and for 1 tactics resource you can give him Bard's power (Rivendell Blade). Plus--progress.

Maybe we see some Esgaroth trait buffing in the future but I can't imagine it.

Are you guys having better success with him? Am I missing something?

Legolas's progress is often mostly wasted since I tend to have enough questing power to get through locations anyways.  Sure, it is progress and it helps, but in most occasions it isn't really that useful.   Bard works great with Hands Upon the Bow, making him able to kill many things in the staging area while you are questing that Legolas can't handle without weapon support.

Legolas's best feature is his trait and the weapons it allows him.  When relying on FoeHammer to draw, it's just easier to pack your deck with the silvan weapons that offer so much more than the non-silvan weapons do.

I do like to use Ally Legolas for the added draw though and Bard is a decent replacement even if his weapon choices (excluding the use of Elf-friend) are more limited.

We really need some non-Silvan/Nolder weapons.

I didn't much miss Ally Legolas since I was running Lore and Foe-Hammer for card draw but you make a good point--losing access to him could hurt if you didn't have another easy way to get cards. Plus, Arod can give you some of that progress back...
