I really like this version of Dwalin. Even if you're paying full price for him, he's worth it: a good defender for the price, with Sentinel on top of it. If you can get him with his price reduction, he becomes the best value for a defender in the game. He might be my favorite Dwarf ally.
Don’t know if he’s my favorite (flashy Erebor Battlemaster and good old, faithful Erebor Record Keeper come to mind) but he is excellent. And in a dwarf deck it is usually pretty easy to get him for his discount cost.
Hero Dwalin was really good back in Khazad Dum but as we got bigger enemies (as well as a general move away from Orc enemies) he has become less and less relevant. For a general-purpose build, I don’t think I would ever use him at this point. Nori is just so much more reliable.
Honestly, I cringe a little bit whenever I see a character (especially Hero) ability that references a specific encounter card trait or effect. A lot of them are good but I like flexibility in my decks as I don’t custom-build for the quests and I always prefer abilities that rely on factors I can control rather than what the encounter deck decides to throw at me.
