Can Beorn's Hospitality [which target a player controling Beorn] or Water of Nimrondel [which heal all characters in play] be used to heal Beorn considering neither of those cards target him directly?
Damage can be avoided, though. Dori can keep him alive longer. I think Close Call works as well.
Dori and Close call don't work, because they are both player card effects, which Beorn is immune to.
Neither one targets the Hero. In fact, Dori is in the FAQ as a specific example of how you can save Beorn.
Dori and Close call target damage, not Beorn. Landroval and Fortune of Fate also work as a mechanismus to save Beorn since his text is not in effect in discard pile.
How about the Song of Mocking?
I think no, just because you have to 'choose' Beorn and that would be targeting.
Can the new Dori Hero be used in conjunction with Beorn? I'm not certain if he is actually targeting Beorn
Also, can the new Honoyr Guard be used in conjunction with Beorn? I would guess so, because it is very similar to the Dori Ally card.
Dori cannot since he is a player card trying to affect Beorn's shields. The new Honor Guard can because he is essentially effecting the damage Beorn would take.
Honestly, I've given up trying to increase his survivability. Better to find ways to bring him back after you've used him to his fullest.
Put him in a Tactics/Leadership Eagles deck and use him to soak damage and wreck bad guys. When his HP starts to get too low drop a Sneak Attack Landroval and let him take a big hit. Beorn comes back into play ready and with 9 hp and Landroval gets flipped and attached to a copy of Eagles of the Misty Mountains (boosting that and the Support of the Eagles you probably have on Eomer, Imrahil or Legolas).
Rinse and repeat.
This can work mono-tactics either paying for Landroval outright or Gwaihiring him, of course, but in my experience it's a little harder to pull off then just making sure I have a Sneak Attack and a single Leadership resource before really throwing him in from of the punches hard.
Landroval's effect is once per game, and that does NOT reset by playing another copy of Landroval:

So the "rinse and repeat" part of your strategy won't work: you can only save Beorn with Landroval once. The rest is good advice, though. And by the time you need to save Beorn more than once, you're probably getting close to the end of the quest anyway.
Though each player can still use a "once per game" individually. You can potentially use him 4 times in a 4-player game (didn´t say it was practical
)
Good catch.
I think I probably knew that when I regularly used Beorn in this combo (right around the time he came out) but it completely slipped my mind here. Thanks for keeping me honest
I guess what I was trying to say, more broadly, is this:
The reason to play Beorn is how much flexibility he gives you in the early game. You can easily get Gimli up to that attack and without all the restrictions you can build him up much better. Beorn's worth is that he comes in ready to go and allows you a ton of action advantage and tempo boost right at the beginning. He lets you focus your resources on other things while holding off (and beating down) the enemies all on his own for a while.
But in doing so he's going to get torn up bad. What I've seen a lot of people do when that happens is back off from defending with him and start just using him for his 5 attack. Which is okay I guess but I think it is handicapping a character that's already restricted. Better, in my opinion, to use him up to his absolute fullest and then bring him back into play.
Sneak Attack Landroval has always been my method of choice for bringing him back because I like Imrahil in my Eagle decks but you could of course also run a Spirit Hero and bank on Fortune or Fate--that starts looking really expensive though. That being said, if you aren't banking on Landroval there's no reasons you need those expensive Tactics Eagles so you could run 2x Spirit in your Hero lineup to help pay for that Fortune--and that one is repeatable.
I would just love to play a 4-player game with everyone playing Eagles. Just...the madness of it would be amazing
If Landroval puts Beorn back into play, does he come into play with one damage?
(or does his immunity prevent that damage?)
I think the immunity would kick in as soon as he was in play, so it would prevent the dmg.
