Awakening CenterType: Upgrade Cost: 2 Faction: Corp Haas-Bioroid Faction Cost: 1 Awakening Center can host bioroid ice (each piece of ice installed facedown, ignoring all install costs). Whenever the Runner passes all of the ice protecting this server, you may rez a piece of ice on Awakening Center, lowering the rez cost by 7 [Credits], to force the Runner to encounter it. Trash that ice after the run is completed. Trash: Set: Creation and Control Number: 021 Quantity: 3 Illustrator: Diana Martinez |

But then the ICE is trashed, which you don't want to be doing too often.
One nice, but niche, synergy is that Director Haas' Pet Project can bring back ICE that was used on this.
My question is, does this happen before the Runner gets a chance to jack out after passing the last piece of ICE or does it happen after? In other words, can the Runner bail out before you can use this?
I don't really like this card. It forces you to run tons of bioroids and more ice in general since the ice is immediatly trashed aferwards and you telegraph what you are doing with it, so the runner will be almost always prepared for this.
The important bit's about this card, for me, are "FORCE the runner to encounter it" and the fact that the bioroid is facedown. It's a rattlesnake, scaring the runner into not running the server until they've got a lot of credits. You could just have an Eli, which they can get through, but the runner has to worry that you might force them to hit an Ichi or Heimdall, and potential punishment from that can keep the runner cautious.
Or you could just do something simple like score a False Lead before playing this.
False Lead sitting there changes this card completely. Is that a Janus, a Heimdall 2.0, or something that I'll rez for free?
Maybe that's just 3 Victors on Awakening Center, silly runner.
And Trash the Ice? Oh no, I wish there were some way Haas-Bioroid could get cards out of Archives . . .
Very fair point, a scored False Lead drastically changes the effectiveness of this card.
Is that really how it looks in play? What's the "ignoring install cost" bit for? Clarity?
This upgrade seems pretty nasty...
The 'ignore all install costs' refers to the extra 1 credit per existing ICE in a server you have to pay when installing ICE. So you don't have to pay credits to host ICE onto awakening center.
I'm not certain if the ICE on awakening center counts towards the install costs for ICE in that server, but I don't think so.
Does one passed ICE hosted on the Center triggers the ability of it for a second hosted ICE?
My gut says ´no´ though I would be hard pressed to back it up based on the wording.
And we all know that "the intention of the card..." argument, though I find it somewhat fitting here, won´t get us anywhere
The ice that is hosted on awakening center is not installed on the server. The runner does not pass it, they are simply forced to encounter it. Therefore Awakening center can only trigger once per run.
Also do you have a reference that says the awakened ICE is not passed?
Technically if the ICE awakened is Bullfrog and the runner is moved to another server, which also has Bullfrog, and moved back again; he might end up passing all ICE on the server with Awakening Center twice during the same run. Would you not be able to use Awakening Center the second time during the same run in this example?
The card actually uses very specific terms "all ice protecting this server". Ice hosted on AC is not protecting a server as installed ice does, it is simply hosted on AC. The runner has no way of approaching ice hosted on AC therefore the runner has no way of passing that ice. Think of it this way. Can you use Femme to target ice hosted on AC in order to bypass it? Can you use FAO to force the corp to rez that ice? Of course not because it is not protecting any servers.
I dont see a reason, why ICE in the Center shouldnt "protect the server". Especially when, at the time in question, a runner was just *forced* to encounter it.
btw. why be able to host multiple cards when the runner passes the first ICE and trashes the whole Center afterwards?
Femme: yes,... why not? "[...]choose an installed piece of ice."
FOA: yes,... why not? "[...]Choose an unrezzed piece of ice[...]"
Problem remains with Escher: "If successful, instead of accessing cards, rearrange any number of ice protecting all servers (without rezzing or derezzing that ice)."
The runner could use this, to find non-bioroid-ICE which he can't move into the Center...
Don´t try to explain it by saying something like:
If the FAQ is where you get your info please just refer to it straight away, instead of assuming that we all stay on top of the newest release.
FAQ states only one ICE on AO can be triggered per run; however Lukas also confirmed that if you have multiple AO in a server all can be triggered (in the order of the Corp's choosing).
Escher cannot affect AO ICE, as it is IN the server, not PROTECTING the server (these are two distinct variables). This also means when you pass the AO ICE, it does NOT trigger a second time.
Did I miss anything?
This always confuses me. It seriously takes 30 seconds to go to FFGs website and look at the FAQ. The cards are in alphabetical order so you don't even need to search anything for too long. I can understand ruling questions since the rulebook is a beast but asking whether or not there is an FAQ ruling on a forum instead of looking it up yourself? Anyways if you don't like discussions of rules and the reasons behind them maybe don't visit forums?
