too bad, since the flavour of this card is really great.
i wish this was Hardware, and not a Resource. From a flavour perspective it fits better and from a mechanical perspective it would would be complemented quite well by Replicator.
maybe a "Private Satellite", someday, can a be hardware.
Shame it's overpriced by 1, but then that's a direct result of Public Sympathy being overpriced by 1 as well.
Why would Andromeda want to run that?
Because it's a card you can drop on turn 1 to both keep an extra card and make Underworld Contact kick in - seeing as there are High Link Andy builds that run both Public Sympathy and Access to Globalsec, it certainly makes sense to have both of those things in one card.
Exactly! This card was built for Andy + link combos as stated earlier.
Actually it's somewhat important imo. Andy has the problem of not being able to run(other than using an event card), without discarding a card from your hand. Corp can see this and just install bunch of assets hoping that runner wont run anything. Besides, Andy probably has at least 1 event that generates credit. Early 3 credit investment isn't that bad at all if you can kick off UWC asap. Access to Globalsec just lacks the versatility of this card. It's well worth the 1 extra credit to have both ability in the same card.
To get that extra link, we have several options
1. rabbit hole
2. access to globalsec
3. dyson memchips
4. helpful ai
5. borrowed satellite.
When I play Andy, 3 dyson mem chip just wasn't enough to hit that link consistently early with drawing UWC in the opening hand(You want to draw at least 1 link card + UWC). Having about 4 link card was the sweet spot. Also 3 extra memory was just overkill. I usually take 2 Dyson memchips ( +2 memory seems like the good spot for all breaker+utility program) You could even take less if you run the free mem cost breakers.
Rabbit hole is nice but running all 3 is probably ideal and thats a bit too much faction point to take just for links. That leaves access to globalsec, helpful ai and borrowed satellite.
Until now I've been running 2-3 Dyson and 1-2 Helpful AI 1-2 access to globalsec. The problem was that Access to globalsec is basically useless in late game. Now borrowed satellite fills its spot. IMO, 2 Dyson 1 helpful AI 1-2 borrowed satellite seems ideal amount of links for 2 link combo deck. It might be tad expensive, but with 5 cards you covered the memory, link and extra hand size. This frees up card slots in the deck. With early credit boost from event cards and UWC, it's a damn good deal
I don't know how many utility programs you run, but you probably shouldn't go over 5 MU because it'll slow you down immensely. For adding one extra MU, both Criminal consoles are a much better choice than Dyson, because they both make your runs more efficient and cost the same.
And if you want to roll UWC, Access to Globalsec is your best option by a landslide. You don't put yourself in a hole if you play it on turn one, it costs no influence and gives you exactly what you need. You need 1 link. You don't need handsize. Having to discard a card or two after your first turn doesn't justify the influence cost and deck space of Borrowed Satellite or even Public Sympathy. Just include cards you can play on your first turn and actually do something useful instead.
Also, I don't think you need 4 link cards for UWC. The thing is, if you want it this badly in your opening hand, you are probably relying way to much on a combo which isn't consistent, very vulnerable and prevents you from playing to the full potential of Account Siphon, which is quite possibly the best card in the game right now. Don't get me wrong, UWC is best played with Andromeda, but it shouldn't be the core of your economy, it should be assisting it. And for this, it is enough to get one of the combo cards in your opening hand. I wouldn't even mulligan for it.
This is all theorycrafting from your side. I suggest you try this deck out. You suggest UWC shouldn't be the core of my economy. Well after playing all the event cards for credit + UWC credit and cyberfeeder, I rarely need credit. I got traces covered from links etc. Next time you comment, please respect that this all comes from actual play testing.
For having tons of MU( which I respectfully disagree since full suit of breakers + sneakdoor beta is 6), I run Faerie + Femme Fatale for sentry breakers. They compliment each other very well. It doesnt slow me down at all it makes my deck super fast. I'm no longer scared by early Janus or Archer. It takes very little credit to break them. In fact, the deck has been very consistent. With 9 card draw, statistically speaking as well, I rarely mullgan, e.g. 9 C 45 with 3 copies + 4 copies of link is VERY consistent. Also I dont run account siphon. You can argue that it's the best card in the game but that really depends on the deck. Gabriel and Whizzard, yes it definitely is. Andromeda and others? not so much. Account Siphon means I need tag removal or meat dmg protection or Vamp to finish corp's econ. With Thomas Haas, Account Siphon's power has gone down too. Account Siphon + Vamp + other support cards take up a lot of card slots. You gotta build your deck around it. Same goes for UWC, expect it's suited towards Andy's identity.
Now you could take the shaper breakers that does not use MU with 2 links. But that takes off faction points. Either way, you end up using off faction points for efficiency.
The aforementioned deck excels especially in click efficiency. i.e. I do not use clicks to gain credit. You cannot value the deck exactly same as other runner decks and declare that the combo is inconsistent or slow. After turn 1, I do not use clicks to gain economy via armitage etc. Now you do make a good point with Daily Casts. Then again, link cards other than access to globalsec saves card slots. UWC does something that no other criminal econ cards do. Provide a long term economic advantage. This is where Andy performs very poorly compared to other runners. Shapers have Magnum Opus. Anarchs can just Stimhack for those last few points or run the archive with Noise. It follows that UWC compliments Andy's weakness and strength. My point is that Access to Globalsec is there JUST to get UWC going. That's bad. It's more efficient card slot wise to include link boosters that does something. Since this combo covers my link, late game econ, hand size with just 4-5 cards + UWC, that's efficient. With other runners, this requires too much combo, but with Andy that's not a problem.
Also, the only thing you need for Account Siphon is two additional Plascretes. That's it.
I also never said you should use Armitage. It's awful. Burst economy is much better. And you are right, Borrowed Satellite does something else for you, but the additional handsize is unnecessary. The additional effect is pretty useless and it costs 2 credits more, which greatly influences the efficiency of UWC. With Borrowed Satellite for link (or Dyson) UWC needs 9 turns just to break even. Globalsec would at least reduce this to 7, which is still a lot by the way.
It is true that you kind of pay the clicks for UWC upfront to save them later, which makes it not so bad as it seems, but it still takes significant time to pay out.
And needing to install two memory cards DOES make your deck slower and not faster. Installing 2 cards takes more clicks than installing only one. And what if you don't draw them? You either need to add a lot of MU to make it work consistently, which leads to a lot of dead draws later in the game (and no, installing Dyson just for the link shouldn't be done) or you maybe end up not drawing the MU which makes you sad.
Nope - you need to have your deck built/played in such a way that losing any one resource won't be a huge problem for you. Sometimes that just means taking all credits off Kati before you siphon, sometimes it's more complicated than that. If you're running a resource-heavy setup (like, say, a high-link Andy), that opportunity cost may be more than you want to bother with.
Yes, and getting the money to use those two breakers takes less clicks, since one of them is super-efficient for low-cost ICE, the other is super-efficient for high-cost ICE. Hence: more combo-oriented (you need both), but faster.
€: And Siphon is still a great card even if you remove the tags the hard way. You are not playing it to it fullest potential, but draining the corp of credits while losing almost none is still a great move. Even if you trade one for one, I would still do it. That's basically what Vamp does when you ignore the tag.
I still think it's slower than a "normal" rig. The problem with Faerie is that it's only a one time use. So without any progam retrieval you can use it three times and you have to draw every copy as well. Personally I would just use it for early game protection and then forget about it once the breakers and sneakdoor are installed. The 6 MU setup may be more cost efficient credit wise, but drawing the pieces can take a lot of time, even with Andromeda. Any new piece of a combo adds more variance to it which automatically makes it less consistent. Either you live with that or you add a bunch of cards which will be useless when your combo is set up.
I am not willing to accept either in my decks, but that's just me. I am not here to tell anyone, how he should build and play his deck.
