And at only one trash cost, you better install somewhere you're sure to be able to use it next run because you'll only get one chance - if the runner gets in, it's gone.
Basically, when they declare they are breaking a subroutine, you can rez Tyr's Hand and stop the subroutine from being broken despite the cost being spent.
Heres an interesting rules question: A runner uses Grappling Hook, say on Wotan. Runner has E3 Feedback Implants. Corp usesTyrs hand to prevent one from being broken. Can the runner spend credits to break more subroutines? Did the runner break the subroutines in a certain order, forceing the corp to prevent the sub the runner breaks last in order to make E3 not work? And does preventing the last sub from being broken close the opportunity to trigger E3?
So, the runner can just re-break the subroutine, making this card pretty useless most of the time. A lot of overhead for a "trap" that will rarely be impactful.
Cards like this generally make me believe that at some point in the design process someone had the idea of a significant effect, but the basic idea got watered down or nerfed or otherwise softened to the point that it was rendered completely de-clawed. Someone must have realized during play testing that the card was worthless, but no one took the opportunity to tweak the card language to up the impact and render the card useful, or else replace it with a better card. So, we get a pretty bookmark like this.
And such a shame too, the card art is high contrast and looks good on the table, and the lore reference to Tyr, Norse god of Justice who lost a hand to chain the great wolf Fenris, reenforces the vague germanic / norse thematic thread seen on a fair number of the HB cards.
This one could have been a definitive HB card. Imagine Stronger Together if this card were a legitimate threat; suddenly a big pile of bioroid ice backed up by Tyr's Hand and archive recursion; seems less sucky to me.
I wish this card said something like:
Which would make this a powerful card instead of a bookmark.
Or even a (anachronistic) Wendigo equivalent:
That would obviously be worth a higher rez cost as it would be potentially deadly, but also more utilitarian.
Now that you mention it, Fenris (the ICE) has one of those in his mouth.
And so he should!
