Probably the cards should read instead: "if you are tagged and made a run this turn"!
I think both Data Leak and Retrieval Run are great additions to Whizzard decks
Data Leak Reversal is great after a Vamp or an Account Syphon: you've made a successful run on a central server (HQ), you are tagged and the corp is poor so you can ignore the tag and play Data Leak to mill 2 cards
Criminals have Sneakdoor Beta that I agree it's a must if you use Gabe, but it's not an autoinclude if you use Andromeda
Although I like the mechanics of Netrunner, I am getting very disappointed by the unbalanced cards. I am really becoming disappointed by the fact that FPG further empower the strongest factions and deck-types. Anarchs were already killer, now they are even more unstoppable.
You need to build your deck around it. You can't just splash it freely or it will do nothing.
My DLR Whizzard deck basically goes like this...
First you need to get set up. That means:
a. Have more money than the corp.
b. Have breakers to get into HQ and Archives.
c. Have DLR and Josh B in play.
Then...
My turn:
a. Activate Josh B.
b. First click - Vamp the corp to 0. Gain a tag, natch.
c. Mill 4 cards with DLR.
Corp turn:
Gain 2c and trash DLR. (If they don't do this, they are dead, as next turn I mill 5 cards.)
My next turn - run archives.
Then you are into the whole trying to set up the combo again.
They will probably trash Josh B and start hitting you with other tag punishment from then on. You need to be prepared for that also.
Basically if you can do the whole combo 3 times you mill 12 cards. Which is, on average, 2 or 3 agendas.
And pulling it off 3 times, is not easy! There's a lot of timing issues with money, clicks, tags etc.
Bear in mind, this is a "tag me" deck, so "step a. Have more money than the corp" basically requires no long term resources. No Kati, No Armitage, No Wyldside, No Compromised Employees etc etc.
Yes you might win if you get the combo, but frankly, you deserve to.
Christ, FFG put out another deck that isn't criminal running HQ and shutting down your ice.. Oh Noes!
Don't like it? Go put 3 R&D Interface into your runner deck and be happy.
I love DLR. It creates a new deck archetype and brilliantly ties in all the anarch cards from the Genesis cycle.
But maybe it's cheaper importing Vamp and DLR in criminal.
Unfortunately, the combo is painfully slow and inefficient. At the most, you can expect to mill 1-2 cards unless the corporation feels like being obliging and drops a convenient tagger ice. Worst thing is, it doesn't feel like you're playing the game in any meaningful way, just waiting for the cards to show up. Not terribly fun for me.
This may have potential as a surprise splash card, maybe a low influence replacement for splashed 1x medium, unfortunately, it's a resource and cannot be test-ran.
Maybe, my problem was trying to run it as a combo card instead of a money-denial trick, will have to look into that.
It seems to me like you were using DLR in the wrong deck. Whizzard with Vamp, Account Siphon and Joshua B. is probably the best way to use DLR in anarchs. You can reliably tag yourself, and the corp is always poor so you don't have to worry about the tags. If the corp trashes DLR, you still have Joshua B, and if the corp trashes Joshua B., you still have DLR. And the corp is still broke after trashing your resource, since they have to spend a whole turn to do it (click twice for creds, trash). Really, DLR is made for Whizzard.
