I'd say it won't see a lot of play in your typical shaper deck, which now has both indexing, maker's eye and R&D interface.
That said, I could see it in a criminal deck to check for the right moment for the R&D run, and if it wins you a turn for virus purge, so much the better.
It would really shine if runners had a trick of light for virus counters (which I am secretly hoping for since forever).
By virtue of being a virus for 1$, it should also work in a noise deck - you can easily self-trash it and recur with deja vu for extra milling. The peek at top card may not see too much use here though.
b ) subtle? you see most of the cards corp gets befor corp gets them, without even running, its as close to "must wipe viruses" as it gets
c ) 3 runs on RnD is not easy, so RnD interface wins here, makers and Indexing might make this one too weak in comparison, but its effect is not weak at all
"you see most of the cards corp gets befor corp gets them, without even running, its as close to "must wipe viruses" as it gets"
See, for you it's easy choice, for me... I'd rather pass the turn for 3 credits. Depends on situation. There are times when the runner only gets to see a few operations and some ice... most of which will be expected.
"Surge"
Playing surge in shaper? Meh.
If playing anarch, I'd say, plenty of better targets out there. Medium for instance.
I have to agree that I don't see it as an auto-wipe, ESPECIALLY if it is a Shaper's only active Virus. That's a whole turn gone. I'm not saying it isn't a good card, just that purging it once it hits three isn't an automatic decision.
Prior to Future Proof's release, I was really looking forward to including this in my Shaper decks. Now that we have Indexing and R&D Interface, I'm not sure what to think about it. Both of those cards seem more useful for R&D control. I don't think this is a bad card, just... not quite as good as the other two, maybe?
I admit that I haven't tested it. I'll have to do that.
Pretty great with Keyhole, since it lets you know whether you're going to Keyhole that R&D run or not.
Corp purging just for this? Yes!
