Street Magic

Street Magic

Street Magic

Type: Resource: Virtual
Cost: 0
Faction: Runner Anarch
Faction Cost: 1
Unbroken subroutines resolve in the order of your choice.
The greatest trick is not the trick itself, but in making someone believe that it is no trick at all. To your average sysop, it's magic. To your average runner, it's a closely held trade secret.

ICE where Street Magic comes in handy:

Archer, Bulwark, Caduceus, Chetana (if the Corp needs the 2 credits for the Psi game), Datapike, Enigma, any Grail ICE with at least 1 Galahad subroutine, Fairchild 3.0 (if the Corp ends the run), Fenris, Heimdall 1.0, Heimdall 2.0, IP Block, Little Engine, any ICE enhanced with Sub Boost/Sensei/Marker, Markus 1.0, Mausolus (when the subroutines are advanced), Muckraker, News Hound (with an active Current), Orion, Rototurret, Shadow, Shinobi, Shiro, Upayoga (if the Corp resolves Snowflake's subroutine), Uroboros, Viktor 1.0, Viktor 2.0, Viper, Wall of Thorns

    • Meadbeard and KillerShrike like this

Rewards an aggressive style of face-checking in the early fame with few/no breakers installed. Is the corp willing to pay 8+ to rez a Heimdall if all it's going to do is end the run?

Also useful against the new Vikram 1.0, which looks to be one of the best Sentry ICE HB has got in a while.

Street Magic won't help against Vikram 1.0, since he has no ETR subroutine.

Well, it's a marginal cost-saver against Vikram if you're using a breaker, since you could potentially avoid breaking the no-using-programs subroutine.

Thanks for putting that together!

Cat and mouse game with Grail ICE ("the corp may reveal up to 2 more Grail ICE from HQ"), but there are still plenty of nasty things you won't want to face check: Assassin; Enforcer; Grim; Ichi 1.0 and 2.0; Lancelot; Sagittarius; Swordsman; Cortex Lock; Gemini; It's a Trap!; Kitsune; Komainu; Mamba; Merlin; Neural Katana; Shinobi; Tsurugi; Yagura; et al.

That's still a pretty big list of bad things happening to the Runner, and several are plenty popular. Don't know how confident I'd be with a "drop Street Magic and go" approach. I'd rather my face-checking solutions be reliable: Snitch; Security Nexus.
