The wording here confuses me. Usually, cards that give tags say "give the runner 1 tag" or "the runner takes 1 tag", or something along those lines. But here it says "You ARE tagged". So... is the tag bound to this resource and if it is trashed, the tag is gone?
What exactly happens when you play this card?
You expose yourself in public so every available newsreporter in the city stalks on you, blocking the way of the incoming Police Force?
Well, in Netrunner, meat damage isn't usually done by the police. It is done by corporations. If a corporation kills someone publicly, it would be immediately busted by the police. Bad publicity isn't the hard evidence of crimes done by a corporation, it is the suspicion of it, churned by rumors and suspicious actions. At least that's how I interpret it.
I assume that this card gives no tags, so for the purpose of the new effects like "remove1 tag" etc. it will not suffice. However, it completely fulfills the requirements of the "if the Runner is tagged" condtional effects like the ones in Closed Accounts, Scorched Earth, DRT, PSF(yes, most of them are meat damage) etc. It will also make the new ice like Data Hound and Pachinko much easier for the Corp to set... because you set them up for them. This is the "tag me" alternative of Plascrete, and my guess is it is here to take over when the rotation occurs.
Yes. Effectively the card is a tag, or rather, makes the Runner vulnerable to any effect that requires the Runner to be tagged. It doesn't count as 1 tag or 100 tags, but just changes the Runner's status . . . to "tagged."
Bad Times, Big Brother, Closed Accounts, Freelancer, Market Research . . . lots of ways for the Corp to beat up the Runner if this card is in play, but it is a hard counter if the Runner is already tagged and expecting a Scorched Earth or 3; then Paparazzi isn't a bad play: hide in plain sight, as the saying goes.
Still, it's pretty janky and Corp dependent.
Interesting card design.
The problem is that as it is a resource and you are of course tagged while it's in play, a motivated corp will just trash the resource. So, it's kind of just a $2 tax and zero sum on the clicks plus a burnt card slot. Also, many tag punishment cards other than meat damage exist.
One possible use for it would be to make the cybernetic cards that inflict meat damage more playable. Install this, then the cyber, and then feed this to a pawnshop or chopbot or something. But, my stance on timmy combos is well known.
So, yeah, kind of a bad card, though not without some jank potential.
Now that is an interaction I just can't see the flavor in. Basically, if I call the press right before an operation, everything is going to be fine. All the positive energy from my fans I guess?
This really needs an additional cost for being trashed to be good.
EDIT: I forgot - being a zero-sum click effectiveness usually tends to favor the Runner. Here, it is a nice little click-trap: You can't be multi-Scorched at the start of the turn, they need to trash this card on click 1. But then... they need to tag you if you hadn't had one before.
I stand corrected - this is counterproductive in "tag-me" decks but works well against SEA Source + double Scorch combos by effectively reducing reducing them to single Scorch. Is it worth it - hardly, but a way to go.
A few fall guys and data leak reversal, you've got a nice mil setup without the damage worries.
That's a lot of cards to buy yourself a turn and a half. It's not a bad tax (3 clicks + 6 credits to get through 3 Fall Guys one turn, 2 clicks + 4 credits to blow out the rest of it), if the game is still being contested by the time you get all that stuff on the table.
Then again, if the Corp has a Freelancer or two, that's a lot of work for nothing. Since so much of Data & Destiny is tag oriented, Freelancer might be around a bit more. The All Seeing I certainly will be.
Still, could be worth a shot: let us know if you get it working.
