Decent toolbox card for NBN. I don't think it will see all that much play, but it's good that it exists. Valencia is a little sad, nonetheless.
We have to wait for upcoming illicit ICE, but for now, it's a nice way to make Muckraker playable.
Usually if I'm playing a deck with illicit ICE, it's a big ICE deck, and as such bad pub isn't a big deal. At 2 credits to rez, 1 to advance, click to draw, click to install, click to advance, I'd prefer to just wear the bad pub than deal with that sort of jank - not to mention it essentially makes the ICE itself 3 credits and 1 deck slot more expensive. Valencia would need to be absolutely everywhere for me to consider throwing this into a deck.
Don't underestimate its baiting capacities. The runner assumes it's an Agenda and therefore spends credits to get into that server. However, you will then trash it just before the runner has access - just like Thomas Haas. That's the advantage over, let's say, Witness Tampering.
Only partly right. You wouldn't include this card in your deck, if there isn't any BP in the first place. Therefore, by the time this card sees play, the corp already suffers some BP.
This baitrun might not be as taxing as one hopes.
doesn't have to be. for example, you could put this behind two illicit ICE and clear the bad pub before they ever get a chance to use any of it.
but like AdorablePython said, the main appeal of this card is that, like Thomas Hass and unlike Junebug, Aggressive Secretary, or Cerebral Overwriter, it can actually do something if the runner doesn't call your bluff. even in the above scenario, just wait till you rezz some illicit ICE somewhere else (or however else you're generating bad pub) and then trash it. i've been running a Making News deck with Muckrakers and Shinobi lately, and Exposé has been doing some serious work.
I'm not sure how you got the idea that they AP was talking about putting this is a deck solely to bait the runner. The conversation was about including illicit ICE so BP was to be expected. I wonder if we might see this in GRNDL decks so that it can be used (as bait?) no matter when it's drawn.
What he meant was that the bait wouldn't be too much of a tax, since BP cheapens runs. And I partly agree. However, BP isn't very impactful on a single run. Its true potential comes from running multiple times. Saving 2 credits on the bait run isn't that much of a problem. It is a problem however when the runner is running your centrals like mad.
to be honest, i wasn't aware of the previous conversation. my bad.
