If this were Hardware, it might get played in a specialized Lamphrey / Account Siphon / Vamp deck. But as a program that self trashes...meh.
I've been thinking about this and Lamprey in a high-MU deck that doesn't run any other viruses. Probably out of Shaper using Leprechauns. Realistically it's too many cards for too little effect but it would just take a few more cards to punish credit loss to be a real annoyance for the Corp. And they have to waste a turn to get rid of them.
Rules question: Can the Corp purge virus counters if there aren't any virus counters to purge?
To the best of my knowledge, yes.
(obviously, it has never actually come up in a game...)
If it let you gain credits equal to half number of credits lost by the corp rounded up, that would be a really solid, not overpowered card. But this is garbage.
