Won't see use until the other Grail ice are released. That said, they look pretty scary, and probably would sync wonderfully with the CI HB identity.

I am super confused about Grail ICE right now. I just watched a tournament game wherein a player rezzed a Galahad, and had a Merlin in hand. The runner then used a decoder to break the subroutine that Merlin added.

This makes no sense to me. The text of the Grail ICE cards doesn't say that the added subroutines carry the type of the card they are borrowed from. It just says add those subroutines to the ICE being encountered. In this case, the ICE being encountered is a Galahad; shouldn't the added subroutines be able to be broken by a fracter?

I looked at the FAQ and couldn't find anything to help me figure this out.

You are correct in your assessment, so either 1) the tournament was unclear in some way (are you sure the player used the decoder?), or 2) the players completely misplayed it.

It's simple. You have it right:

Any subs added to Galahad would need a Fracter to break (or AI). No adjustment to type is made.

Do you have a link, or did you see it live?

Around 16:19. Thanks for the response.

Yep, it looks a lot like they totally misplayed that. It looked like the Runner spent a Datasucker to reduce Merlin's strength then walked through with Yog.0. Merlin wasn't actually in play. Galahad was in play, so it should have been 3 credits to break with that Corroder on the table.

Essentially, they played that completely backwards. The announcers missed it too, claiming the Runner spent credits when he did not appear to do so. I don't see these guys actually resolve the encounter with the Pop-up Window either (the Corp still should make money, even with Yog.0 in play).

Errors all around.

It's unfortunate when mistakes are made in a tournament game, particularly in the later brackets, and even more particularly when captured on film ;)

But giving people the benefit of the doubt, at the tail end of a respectably sized tournament the people involved have gone through a grueling many hour ordeal, and being human are prone to mistakes...even ones they would not normally make when less stressed.

Agreed. I cast no blame.
