How come this card cancels an event then put it back on top of its owner's deck? The opponent will just play that Desperation again next turn. Talk about stupid card design smh.
You know it's one of the only card I would play from this pod. There is many cases when you cancel an event that has a restrictive trigger or that cancellation will lead to a unit destruction. Of course counter-stroke is something DS could use but this card itself is not bad. The overall pod is.
Plus the costs were paid anyway, and that hopefully weakens your opponent enough to give you the game.
It's a free and untelegraphed. Can't really ask for a stronger effect considering that.
It's just that compared to Counter-stroke, it's not as good since your opponent can get it back and play it again next turn. I don't know that the designers always find ways to undermine DS's ability to counter events, while they gave LS plenty of ways to do the same thing and more effectively. Heck, Trust Me the objective can just cancel 2 events by itself without even spending any resource nor card, and against Sith Control it probably won't even be in danger of adding to the victory pile either.
Amen! Even delaying events for a turn gives you a heads-up that they're out there. For Navy, this card wins games against Desperation.
Would people add Imperial Suppression in their deck to combat against Desperation even though the pod itself is mediocre?
Booker ran it at origins but unfortunately, i think the rest of the set is so bad that one amazing card doesn't quite make up for the rest of the set.
Just looking for confirmation on something...
This card only cancels the effects of the event. So obviously your opponent still ends up paying the 2 cost.
I believe I've read that any "in-text" costs associated with the event must also still be paid, but I can't find a source. For example, if you play this on Yoda, You Seek Yoda, not only must your opponent pay 2 for it, but he has to move the dial up by 1. The only part of the event that is cancelled is the "effect" i.e. putting Yoda into play from the deck.
Correct? And what's the source within the rules or FAQ?
Correct, and you basically quoted the reasoning from the rules already. If you need further justification, see FAQ section 4.1. In the case of YYSY, increasing the dial by 1 is part of the cost, not the effect.
