BTW this deck comes with a dresscode
Thats the exact deck I've been running. Love having over 20 black squadron cards. Works especially good when you get the new vader tie out and you have resources for days with the guarding the wing objective in play
Every time I play this deck I'm surprised how good Stay on target is. Drop Vader or the baron in an edge battle to win the edge and in a next engagement put them into play from the discard pile…so good.
I think this is the pretty much the standard BS deck, and I think it runs very well. It does rely on getting your pilots out onto the board but if you can do that, its tough to beat. you could make an argument for running Black squadron assault over defense protocol, and i personally probably like it in this deck better because it has a high edge count, adds 3 more BS cards (6 with 2x), a total beat down event against all the rebel/jedi fighter decks floating around these days, and a fate card that helps do exactly what ties want to do.
Ya but every time I take out defense protocol from a tie deck, I miss my talon rolls, death from above, and the location way to much. I've tried both versions and I think its better with defense protocol
I can't say definitively either way as i have been testing a lot more of the Fett/Fel/Vader deck, which i think is the best fighter/pilot deck out there for DS, but i have played some BS builds, and i think both versions are very close.
been running this same deck, but have at times missed out on not having any units that have 2 unit damage combat icons (not counting playing Vader or Fel or Mauler as units or if you get the fate combo on tie squad). I've been thinking about dropping Defense to add in 2 objs that have units with 2 unit damage on it. otherwise this deck is fierce.
If you drop defense, you lose both your talon rolls and your death from aboves. I don't think replacing those with units with dmg will help much. I'd rather have the events for the surprise attack instead of units that my opponent can plan for
Defensive Protocol is cruical, because two twist of fates and two possible target strikes. With 10 Fate cards you have so often target strikes that turn the light side player into frustration.
When playing this deck I completely forget about the force. Should I care?
If you have Vader piloting the 181st TIE Interceptor, you don't need to worry about Force struggle.
Btw, while I like BS TIE deck, I'm now running a mono Navy TIE so I can play with Superior Numbers and Training Procedures. I think my version can play a bit faster, but I do lose out on Black Two and Mithel.
You'd be surprised how fast this deck goes if you have guarding the wing in your open objective set. Almost half the deck is black squadron something. You can constantly drop your entire hand playing tons of units. A quick tallon roll or death from above and your opponent loses multiple objectives very quickly. If you happen to get the baron as well it just gets rediculous. Free stuff from vaders tie attacking also adds to it
How does the deck do in edge battles, and what is the general strategy against a complementary LS fighter speed deck?
there are enough fate cards and the occasional surprise vader in an edge stack to win the ones you have to. That is if baron is not on the table. Then you just win them all anyway. Being able to talon roll and use death from above on the one engaugement that they don't defend well can be brutal. As far as other fighters goes, I can usually out run them. Various things in the deck like: a shield on each fighter when deployed, focusing any card in the deck that says black squadron to pay for additional black squadron stuff, vaders tie always putting something black squadron into play, all make the deck just tricksy enough to win. Dropping in the pilot that does 2 damage mid combat or playing baron fel with a stay on target to win an edge battle they thought they had easily works wonders. Fighter decks can also have to deal with defense protocal location every turn. That works wonders on everything except for hobbies x wings. There are enough tricks to handle them if thats all I have to worry about
I've been playing this deck -1 Defence Protocol, +1 Emperor's Sword. It's tough to get rid of Twist and Talon Roll but I like the control you get with Hand of the Emperor and Delta One helps against LS vehicles.
This deck mostly revolves around the 3 BS sets and Fel anyway. It is so fast that those other 2 sets, whatever they are, are just going to add the wrinkles you like.
I tweaked my other Black Squadron deck to become this one (swapped out my Kuat Reinforcements for Defense Protocol, as seen here), but I've been throwing it against my Yoda/Luke mains deck and it just CANNOT deal with it. Like at all. Yoda/Luke just gets its offensive online too fast and is too good at dominating the edge battles and the holding the Force.
Maybe I'm playing it wrong? Maybe I'm not taking the mulligans that I should? What cards should I try to get in a mulligan, what NEEDS to come out early for this deck to work?
After my Fett/Vader/Fel deck lose to a Heroes of the Rebellion deck, I decided to make it into a BS TIE deck similar to this one. I've been contemplating switching out a Defensive Protocol for either Emperor's Sword or BS Assault, but losing that Tallon Roll and Twist of Fate is rather tough so I'm keeping my DP set for now. Hopefully it will have better luck against a Rebel deck, but right now it is playing catch up against the LS vehicle deck and they can use another good set to make this TIE deck more viable.
Baron is your best chance at winning the edge. Especially if you can play him with a stay on target. You will get a huge edge bonus that your opponent isnt expecting. Same can be said for dropping vader negating yodas abilities and nullifying any fate cards they might have just used. If your going to surprise in baron with a stay as I mentioned, thats a great time to use the "I have you now" fate card to wreck yoda or luke.
I find the deck plays much better if you have "guarding the wing" objective in play that makes all your black squardon cards able to be used as resources. Keep in mind, this isnt just black squadron units. You can use pilots that are on your ships, there are a few enhancements in your deck that will also work. You can drop multiple units very fast. Having the enhancement that gives them all a shield when they come into play also works wonders. I prioritize this objective over all others in my opening draw.
You should be able to out run a jedi deck early on and get more units into play. They have to pick and choose who they stop and who gets threw. Thats when your talon rolls and death from above events enter play. Sometimes jedi will just get a fast start and there isn't much you can do about it. Its about timing with your events and making them pay for the blocks they dont make. Since light side must attack to win, the more dangerous and aggressive your board looks, the more units they have to commit to defense instead of attack. Only luke and MTFBWY can get around that issue.
All your black squad cards work together. Make sure your getting your strikes with vaders tie to hunt for free cards (again, it doesn't have to be a unit, just a black squad card) and black two to protect crutial units with a well timed targetted strike from tie attack squad. Stay on target is your best friend and can swing a game if used at the right time. You probably wont win a long drawn out game so you need to be on offense most of the time. When I win, I usually kill 3 objectives if not 4 and have done it as soon as my second turn that I could attack. Hope this helps.
