Sorry to post yet another trooper deck, gentlebeings, but I haven't seen this exact deck composition mentioned yet. There is a lot of synergy within this deck. Its not hard to give your troopers, and many of the non-trooper units, two or three objecive damage icons through the use of Orbital Bombardment, Darth Vader, and Trooper Assault. Tarkin's static ability doesn't hurt, either. Superlaser is great when you draw it, and its even better when Imperial Suppression is in hand. The low number of fate cards might, at first glance, seem a weakness. However, you have a lot of high cost, high force icon cards and not enough resources to play them all. Don't be afraid to throw a few powerful cards into the edge battle. Also, you have several options to fight hard to keep the Balance of the Force in your favor. Any combination of Vader (4 icons, Elite), Tarken (3 icons, Elite), and Motti (3 icons ,effectively elite from his reaction ability) are often enough, unless facing two or more of the unique Jedi units simultaneously. Troopers are definitely not without their weaknesses, however. Jedi Mind Trick is usable on almost every unit in the deck, with the exception of the few droids. Admittedly though, the swarm tactics and possible Imperial Suppression in hand reduces its effetiveess somewhat. Jedi with Shii-Cho training and running the "Message from Beyond" objective set should be approached with extreme caution, as all of your participating troopers could fall in a single strike. Ackbar is another threat to your low damage capacity troopers, so be wary if you see objective set 12 ("Draw their Fire") cards and three open resources during a battle. Thanks in advance to those wishing to comment on the deck. I'd love to read any constructive observations or criticisms the community might have. |

Trooper deck is really fun to play though:)
Other than Vader, you're also missing a big unit or 2 to attract all the enemy attention. I love having the devastator on the table with a deck like this. Attack with some troopers and they have to decide to either let the trooper through and block the devastator or vice versa.
i think you may underestimate this a bit. i noticed u did not speak of trooper assault. perhaps u were rushed and didnt want to speak of all the cards that add blast damage but almost no one on the forum even speaks of this card as if it were a stepchild they neglect.
i think stall is actually a good thing with troopers as their amount of unit damage is very nice in the absence of the weaknesses kingofhearts already mentioned and is even more so when u win the edge. Furthermore, even if the unique charcter with shi-cho shows up u already have a punisher for him in the form of detained.
My only "criticism" for the deck is pod 36. it is a good suprise tactic and could make the difference but id support looking for droids pod over it just because of its worse adding more protection for superlaser and the viper droid adds recycling of swarm units. However, since the meat of the deck lies in 9 pods instead of 10, the 10th pod is purely players choice.
Good deck kingofhearts.
In addition to the vulnerabilities the OP mentioned, Han also shreds this deck unless he can be Detained. Since so many of the troopers have 1 damage capacity, Han generally kills two units per turn. Until the Navy gets a better method of targeted character removal, Mr. Solo will be a huge problem.
And like Baz said, its fun as hell to play, swarming, and attacking almost every turn, with all the black blaster icons, you drop a lot of defenders. Just relying on unopposed damage make for a long one...
Starhawk, you're right. I had not considered Han's text when I wrote the commentary, but he could disrupt the momentum of the deck.
True, the deck needs some time to build up before launching your strikes. However, barring extremely unlucky draws, the odds of pulling at least one of the blast icon adders or Tarkin (makes unnoposed faster) is pretty high by the second DS turn, especially taking into account the mulligan.
I can definitely see your point. "It's Worse" is a great card for thwarting cancels, and the droids do synergize well. However, I feel that they both are more of meta specific choice. The Fate cards can really be devastating when you eliminate the defenders and damage the objective, which "Human Replica Droid" synergizes with. Also, "Reconnaissance Mission" synergizes well with the theme of the deck, more than "Looking for Droid's" does. On top of that, "Dark Alliance" is only useful as an edge card. Thus, unless, my meta is playing a lot of Jedi, I wouldn't change it out.
As for those who suggested putting in the Devastator Pod. Could you guys give me a recommendation as to which pods you would remove to make room?
The only pods I would definitely not ever--ever--take out of this deck would be the two copies of Take Them Prisoner. Those are your only real outs against Han, and Tear This Ship apart allows you destroy Heavy Blaster Emplacement (another card that, if left unchecked, can cause serious problems for a deck with so many weenies).
