A strong deck with the potential to deal with practically anything, however its obscenely high starting threat means that it functions best as a support deck: healing and questing while your allies focus enemies (although Gandalf is more than capable of looking after himself). That said, if they CAN protect you while you set up it will soon pay off for everyone as you lower their threat, heal/ready their characters and deal with adverse effects. Most of the events and abilities have been chosen because they benefit the group as a whole - partly to make up for noone else being able to use Gandalf...
Many of the allies have shenanigans suited to helping out a particular hero but are also pretty solid all-rounders, and them not exhausting to quest on their first turn out can be a real help for those who need to do so to activate their ability.
The combo of Vilya alongside Gandalf and his pipe means you can potentially play anything you want from your hand for free, going a long way towards mitigating the steep costs of some cards. With plenty of options for getting the card you need either on top of the deck or straight into your hand, I don't find playing a 60 card deck that includes only a single copy of some cards unwieldy.
question? Gandalf makes you play with your top card face up, thus revealed. Can vilya reveal an already revealed card? if not, then that combo does nothing.

Well it doesn't say that it CAN'T do that, so I don't see a problem. Also, one of the great things about this being a non-competitive game is that as a player you're free to interpret the rules a little more liberally. To clarify: in my mind, I still "reveal" the card on top - the fact that I already know what it is is irrelevant!

good point. just make sure you put it on a list of "house rules" that way when friends come over to play, you're all using the same ones.
