So anti backlash and indomitable.

Edit: see below.

I'll just mention that a 4/5 is one of the best bodies for 4R - by a good long way for many other 4 costs. And the effect is nothing to be sniffed at in lots of decks. And uniques, while Archon's Terror is around (which is forever) will always be something to look at.

Here is a list of things Gorgul prevents (if triggered during an attack). I'm not sure if he stops Forced Reactions or Interrupts. Forced Interrupts and Reactions are triggered by the game not the player, so are not affected by Gorgul.

Space Marine

Blood Angel Veteran

Firedrake Terminators

Iron Halo

Indomitable

The Black Sword

Faith and Hatred

AM

Coteaz’s Henchmen

Elysian Assault Team

Enginseer Augur

Interrogator Acolyte

M35 Galaxy Lazgun

Straken’s Command Squad

Staken’s Cunning

The Emporer Protects

Glorious Intervention

Steel Legion Chimera

Rockcrete Bunker

Ork

Big Shoota Battlewagon

Mark of Slaanesh

Dark Eldar

Kabalite Halfborn

Shadowed Thorns Bodysuit

Eldar

Guardian Mesh Armor

Shrouded Harlequin

Tau

Carnivore Pack

Fire Warrior Elite

Fireblade Kais’vre

Amazing list!, Thank you FightingWaloon and any others that contributed.

Shouldn't Fall Back! be on this list?

It should be, in fact it's currently impossible to prevent Backlash with Slaya, because there is no ork unit, that can target an enemy elite while attacking.

No. Fall Back! is a reaction to a unit being destroyed. It does not trigger until after the unit is destroyed, which means the attacking unit has ended its turn.

Thanks for the next level analysis. I did not examine at that level. Some of these are pretty niche, too. Gorgul can cancel prevent Nullify, but only on a No Mercy or a Launch da Snots or something like that.

If the Elite unit is destroyed by the attack, Fall Back! is not prevented by Gorgul's lasting effect (because the attack is resolved by the time Fall Back!'s reaction would be triggered). If the Elite is destroyed by some interrupt or reaction that takes place during the attack, Fall Back! could not be triggered, but I don't think there are any interrupts or reactions an Ork player is likely to be able to use to destroy an Elite during Gorgul's attack.

-- This is true for any reaction to a unit leaving play.

Backlash suffers from a similar situational limitation. It theoretically could be prevented by Gorgul, but since there aren't any reactions or interrupts Gorgul's controller is likely to use to target an Elite during the attack, the theory is unlikely to be put into practice.

Gorgul can cancel

Just because it can end up being important -- Gurgul doesn't "cancel." He prevents you from initiating in the first place. That is actually a pretty significant distinction.

This might be a good Zogwort card because it helps him deal with some of the units that give him the most trouble: BAV, Steel Legion Chimera, Lurking Hormagaunt. It does not do anything to help with some match-ups, but the deck has always struggled against effects that prevent the ping damage that Zogwort does. Gorgul takes out some of the most common of those.

I just realized what a monumental pain in the ass this card is going to be to play against an unforgiving opponent. Because it is an interrupt, you have to actively trigger his ability every single time you attack. If you don't explicitly say that you trigger his effect *when you declare an attacker*, your opponent could make an argument that you missed your chance, and then he can go ahead and trigger his Iron Halo or BAV or whatever else.

I think (hope) most people will play it a bit more by ear, assuming that *of course* his interrupt is triggered, because the alternative just seems like it would be petty, and really really frustrating.

But I kind of wish that his ability hadn't been a triggered ability and was just a passive always-on effect, just for simplicity.

Compared to Boss Zugnog, it is hard to choose Gorgul. If your deck is built around doing spike damage, I could see an argument for Gorgul because he prevents most of the best defenses against spikes. But even then, this benefit is very match-up dependent, where Zugnog is useful against any deck.

He is a great card vs Space Marines, not so much vs other factions.  I want to play 2x, but there is also Zug, and Crush.  I feel a 1x I would never draw him.
