If Warlord redirects both points of damage does this unit still get its boost?
Yes. He doesn't prevent it, he just moves the damage to himself after the Cleavers take it.
When up against the Cleavers and Ba'ar Zul, if you can get 3 damage on the Cleavers, that effectively prevents them from using their ability. They can't prevent the damage with shields because it's a cost and the Cleavers take the damage before it is moved to Ba'ar Zul, so they die before the damage is moved.
Note that the Cleaver's ability is an action, not a combat action, so you can use it for deploy stall in a pinch.
It's important to know that the warlord does not "redirect" the damage. The unit in question must take the damage and survive it. The warlord then moves the damage to himself.
