This + SLC.

Kinda expensive but can be used in coteaz + MtG imo. Will rate after few games with it

First impressions are good synergy with Straken, Zogwort, Zarathur and Bar'zuul, with decent synergy with everyone else. The 4 cost is the main prohibitive factor but at least it comes with double command (compared to the Fire Warrior Elite)

why with Zogwort? Zogwort loves, when he's the defender (with sig support), or when an enemy hits runtherders...

I love how they streamlined what took several lines on Fire Warrior Elite to write.

Well, they're slightly different since you can choose whether you want to use the FWE's ability or not, while the 'Ard Boyz always have to defend.

xRAVEx - My thoughts with Zogwort was that for the most part he keeps your snotlings and other things alive, and for other situations you can use KFG + Ork Kannon to trigger Zoggy / Runtherders

Majestaat - Whilst that's true, in my experience people normally end up attacking the FWE directly anyway, so their abilities are in essence comparable

I think this card is golden. Four resources is hard to budget by it's been worth it for me every time. Bar'zuul can use it to time his bloodying a little better instead of getting flipped before it's time. It's also great for Nazdreg who usually is susceptible to being bloodied since he himself doesn't get brutal, so they go right for him and ignore all the units that get stronger with damage. Front line ard boys forces your opponent to brutalize a guy while you other units also get a chance to attack and gives Nazzy more opportunities to stay in the battle

How does this interact with area effect? Can I not use area effect until this card is dead?

His ability does not interact with area effect at all. If an attacking unit chooses to use its area effect, you never get to the point of choosing defenders, so this guy's ability doesn't apply.

The issue was discussed at length in this thread, in regards to the Dire Avenger Exarch (a different unit with essentially the same ability).

If you have two of them at the same planet during a battle, which one must be chosen as a defender. I'd say whatever of the two the attacker wants.

Correct. The "if able" takes care of this. Once the attacker chooses FL'AB #1 as the defender, FL'AB #2 is no longer able to be chosen as a defender. There is no conflict between the two, so the rules in "priority of simultaneous resolution" do not apply.
