More Space Wolf bodies are welcome, but aside from a couple of not great signature cards, that trait doesn't mean much.

The nature of Space Marine decks (in particular the 3-cost centred economy that Drop Pod Assault encourages) means there's only 2-4 slots available at 4+ cost

Is this worthy of the 4 cost slot in a Ragnar deck that has access to Daring Assault Squad (and other strong options at higher costs)?

No, it isn't. And clearly if its not worth it for Ragnar, its not worth it for Cato either.

2/5

Much like Ku'Gath's Nurglings this card is very much double edged.

The downside of this card however is that as a 4 Cost card it's abilities have to be very impressive to include him.

Currently I rate this card:

2.5/5 (Rated up to 3/5 and would have been 4/5 if this card had Ambush like many of the other Warpack 4 drops that are faction specific)

*It's rating could go up if we see a multitude of Space Wolf units in the upcomming Warpacks, this however currently has not been spoiled and I doubt will happen due to the viarity of units we see comming for the AM, SM and Chaos factions.

Give this guy time. After a few cycles and a million cards are in the card pool (kidding of course, don't quote me on that. :P ) and you can build a pure Space Wolves deck is when this guy will be the most useful. Til then however I'll pay 4 for a D.A.S. or one less for an Honored Librarian. :)

Build a pure Space Wolves deck. :)

Problem is this won't happen. Of that I'm 100% sure as it would not be a great representation of SM at all.

Has anyone ever used this unit and had its Interrupt trigger?

Yes. This card is awesome against warlords IMO

Perhaps it's a lot better than it seems. I've never played with this card, but maybe the idea is to get this 3/4 rather solid combat unit into play on a planet for free using the Blood Claw Pack's ability? Kinda like a nice ambush unit to swing the battle, Drop Pod style, albeit for free.

Its obvious drawback is then that you need to include it for that specific combo.

@Atrus, do you use it in Ragnar then specifically?

The problem is that the Blood Claws are awfully telegraphed, and moreso because most will expect a Predator to drop in rather than this. Unless your opponent is really forced to commit there it wont really ever trigger, which is inherent of the problem with the unit

This would be my assumption as well. However, maybe, then, its strengths lie both in deterring the opponent from committing to the first planet (or the planet where the Pack is sitting) to avoid a potential Predator, and to increase the number of nice free-drops when the opponent needs to commit there? It's all still slightly hypothetical.

I imagine having more than one of these on the same planet would be horrible for the opponent to deal with though.

if they can be brought into play via bloodclaw/ cathedral they may be worth it... But the question then is what do you take out to include these guys? They add an additional unit outside of DPA range, and are easily played around and have no effect against worr who can't run (except the coward himself) and can't be ambush unless played via maxos. The two biggest drawbacks in mho are the drop pod and removal of another solid card to replace for a situational ding of dmg, that at best could be crushing blow for 2-3 IF you had one or two in hand.

the sad part is I really really want to like/run this card, I just can't see what I would be willing to lose to do so.

The problem is that this card's ability is very clearly a case of win-more: it does nothing to actually win the battle and force the opponent to retreat.

I have been running this card with the blood claw pack and predators for ages now in my ragnar deck, in my experience it is a good combo that isn't hard to pull off, you essentially get a unit like this for free and it's up to your opponent to call your bluff, but with this card, the predator and now the addition of the lone wolf, there is plenty for the pack to call on

I think ragnar has a really strong build now for just surprise dropping card in after deployment, with these and the mix of ambush abilities, if you can't fit this into your deck then you may be trying to cram to much other stuff into your ragnar cos i've never found a problem having these in there.

The saddest part is that his promo has some amazing artwork, but rarely ever sees play

The alternate artwork is awesome; as such, it's even more sad that very few people will sell a copy on ebay these days (and those that do ask for a pretty steep amount of money on top of quite steep delivery costs) ;(

I got really lucky that one of my local stores happened to stumble across 2 copies of them. No idea how they got them, but me and someone else came in the top 2 in that tournament so we each snagged a copy. I'm content with a single copy, though, since I'll, sadly, probably never play a full set
