Which nationals was this? Any reports of which opponents you faced, wins, losses, etc? I'm just curious as I've found Baharroth to be one of the worst warlords in the game so it's good to see him getting some wins.
Hi, thanks for the question. It was the Czech-Slovak nationals.
In the 5 rounds of swiss i beat
Aun'shi, Cato, Kith, Aun'shi and Kith again.
The last 3 games were against very good players.
In the top 8 i faced
Ragnar (he had a horrible start), Zarathur and Nazdreg.
This is my evaluation of the match-ups
Aun'shi - very difficult, doom can save the day
Cato, Ragnar - the easier match-ups
Kith - not as horrible as I thought, I usually win on command which helps a lot
Zarathur - again, winning command is the key
Nazdreg - I didnt have much experience playing against my friends deck and that was my undoing. I feel comfortable I would beat him more often than not, but it was his day during the nationals
Btw I took Baharroth because I was sick of playing Eldorath and enjoyed the mobile game of the other warlord. I had no idea I would do as well as I did. The deck takes a lot of skill to use but definitely has some spaces for improvement / tweaking based on your current meta.
Nice, good to hear. I just hope they bring out one or two cards down the road that expand on the mobile/planet hopping Hawk theme and make him into a more viable deck. I'm not sure if anything will put him on the same tier as Eldorath but it'd be nice if the 'tier 3' warlords can catch up a bit with later additions.
How did the Seer's Exodus perform for you? I've never been a fan of the card so I'm interested in hearing how it worked out during the tournament
Also, how did the Wraithknights perform? I pointed out early when they were first spoiled that they were good closers for Baharroth but no one seemed to pay any attention so I'd be interested in hearing your results with those as well
Nazdregs deck was very aggresive on command and first planet with telyporta pads. Also Flash Gitz with Rokkit launchas were a pain. I have seen the decklist somewhere on the forums (road to worlds?).
About the cards... Seer's Exodus saved me one time (in the finals), sometimes it was useless, but especially against Aun'shi when I had it in hand, I could be bolder and play more aggresively. I would keep it there though it's by no means necessary and it's definitely replaceable.
Wraithknights were one of the two cards I added after my pre-nationals local tourney (where I went 1-4, but all losses were very close games and I learned a lot from them). I was very happy about the addition. I played them from hand a couple of times and when my opponent played the inquisitor (since I always had more cards and often around 10 or more) I had a clear choice of what do put on top. I have to say a couple of them were even surprised that it exhausted their warlord too. Overall - a great performer.
