Space Marines Astra Militarum
Tournament Quality
I tried to make a higher cost curve Cato. top 10 finish in a local tournament, beating the eventual winner & another top player in the Country. My only lose of the day came to Even Sor who top came top 4 at worlds so pretty successful day.
After some play testing I took out: - 3 sanctioned psykers - 3 Iron Guard recruits + 3 righteous initiate +1 firedrake terminators +2 ultramarine dreadnought
It was a risky move to remove the only 2/2 for 5 & 6 cost units but during testing I found Cato more than made up for cost curve. and the inclusion of the righteous initiate was included as another target for drop pod, indomitable ect. They worked surprisingly well with drop pod assault
The card of the day for me was the terminator, got me out of more than one tight spot on the day.
On the day I used Catachan outpost one time so thinking about taking them out open to ideas what to replace them with was thinking no mercy.
Warlord

Solid deck. I agree the Firedrake Terminators are excellent in the current game where swarm decks are very popular. Sad to see him die to Klaivex, but that is the same for any unit costing more then 2R.
Only surprise to me is the lack of Eager Recruits. Would definitely try find space for those.
I know this is quite a bit later than this was made, but I'm interested in making something similar and thought of a few changes. With Worr Swarm on the rise and Kith still a prominent deck, how do you feel about the inclusion of Steel Legion Chimera? I'm actually debating taking out 2 Catachan for 2 Chimera, myself. I also was considering one Space Wolves Predator instead of a Dreadnaught for the sake of utility, as well as assuring a planet victory in many instances. I understand Dreadnaught accomplishes the same thing in some cases, but if it gets routed or even exhausted it basically mitigates it's effectiveness, whereas Predator prevents commit regardless of any other circumstances.
With 5 elite units in your deck, why don't you play with Fall Back? That way, you don't lose Firedrake Terminator and Dreadnought by Klaivex easily.
I'll probably test this deck out myself, but I'm thinking about maybe you should include that location which can reduce the SM unit by 1 just in case you have a problem generating resources.

I generally find the supports that reduce cost by one to be rather bad. You basically have to draw them turn one for them to be effective, otherwise it's effectively a card that says "stall your deploy by one action."
I also like Iron Halo better than Fall back in most cases, since it does basically the same thing, but is 2 shields and keeps the unit at the planet instead of at your HQ.

Well, problem with Iron Halo is that it can only go on Unique units, that means it has to go on Cato or Maxos. I would love Halo on Dreadnought but sadly that is not allowed and while two shields is nice... it may not be enough to save the unit.

Fair enough. I don't really like either, to be honest, but I'd probably play Halo if I had to choose.

Yeah Evan the problem I have with that is control there all round great 1 costs its the lack of a hammer means they dont work in this build for me
