Every time I play Kith, I always have some sort of adjustment. The build you see before you is what I played at USA Nationals at Origins. Before that I was playing +1 Gut and Pillage +2 Bloodied Reavers +2 Suffering -1 Solarite Avetys -2 Incubus Warrior -2 Shadow Field
I was mostly happy with how I had the deck before, but in many key matches at Regionals and the BLC, I would draw into to many dead cards.
Archon's Palace, Syren Zythlex, and Gut and Pillage are powerful cards, but they are also a double edge sword. Palace and Syren can get stuck in your hand if you already have them out and drawling into two Gut and Pillages in your opening hand is painful. G&P is only good after you win and only at red. Plus its once a turn, so if you have two in your starting hand, your going into your first turn already behind.
So for Nationals I knew i needed to cut down on one G&P. Doing that I decided that it was fine to keep all of my Palaces and Syrens. My average draw should be better and those cards are to good to not risk the dead cards later on.
Another issue I was seeing was not always dominating command. So I took out the Bloodied Reavers for Incubus Warriors. With the rise of pinging damage I had moved away from Incubus Warriors, but for Nationals I highly believed the field I would face would be mirror matches and Worr.
With Bloodied Reavers being taken out, I added Solarite to make up for the loss of Combat units.
I then switched my Sufferings for Shadow Fields. I played Sufferings one out of 15-20 games. They were mostly for shields. I hoped that I could maybe fall into a nice situation with Shadow Field being played onto Solarite or the Syren.
USA Nationals 2016 Round 1 vs Kith Mirror 1 - 0 Round 2 vs Ku'gath 2 - 0 Round 3 vs Elordath 2 - 1 Round 4 vs Kith Mirror 3 - 1
Top 8 vs Kith Mirror 4 -1 Top 4 vs Kith Mirror 5 - 1 Final vs Elordath 5 - 2
My two losses for the day were to the same player Rick Reinhart (the winner of Nationals). The first game I forgot to trigger Gut and Pillage two turns in a row. Sometimes I'm to focused on what I need the battle ability to due that I space that I had Gut and Pillage in hand and that it needed to be played before you trigger the planet. I've stupidly done this in other tournaments too. I hope I've finally learned my lesson with this.
The final match 3 things were against me. First was the planet layout. The first 3 planets only had 1 icon. I knew Rick's deck would win if we went late game. Once his wildriders with DDS hit the board, he is in control of the board state.
I had a first turn Palace out, so I was in a good position. I ended up winning the first three planets, not even trying for one of them. I had the choke in place and things looked well.
But the second thing against me was letting Rick go to and triggering Tarrus. He drew so many cards that my Palace might as well have been in the discard pile. The first time, I didn't really think he go there and if he did, it wouldn't affect my over all game plan. The second time I thought he wouldn't go there, because I thought he would think I would go block it off. After that, he had the planet locked down and I simply couldn't go there to stop it.
The third thing that went wrong was a poorly played Warleader. In my eyes the game was spiraling out of my control and I needed to try to force a play somewhere. That somewhere was on a first planet where he had a Biel-Tan Guardians and a Wildrider Squadron. The Wildrider left for two and so I went in with the Warleader, totally spacing that there was a second Wildrider at two which than came to one.
I was not thinking clearly at that point. Other than that, I felt it was still a great game and I'm happy with how I did.
As the deck stands though, it has a lot of trouble with DDS and man did Foresight do a number on me.
Going forward and thinking about GenCon I'm not sure if I want to try to retool Kith or move on to other Warlords. Ecstatic Seizures could have helped. I wanted to Warpstorm many times, but Rick had many attachments on his guys. I think Ecstatic Seizures would have been cool, but I'm sure Nullify would have been waiting for me.
Time to think.
Sample Hand:
Total Shields: 0
Average Shields Per Event/Attachment: 0
Total Command: 0
Average Command Per Unit: 0
No Worr and lots of Kith mirror matches. That's interesting. I wonder if collectively the player base is just getting better at combating Worr.
Did Shadow Fields work out for you at the tournament? Agianst a Worr deck they'd be great, but against a Kith mirror match they seem wasted.
Shadow Fields were shields all day, but Sufferings would have been too, so no big loss there. There was two Worr players who made top 8. They both lost to Rick as well.
Two in the top 8 seems fair for a T1 warlord. So 3 Kith, 1 Eldorath, 2 Worr. Do you recall the other warlords in the top 8?
I like Shadow Field. I think Shadow Field is a better include than Suffering even though you didn't use it during the tournament. In a match up where it's applicable it can be game winning. Though I guess the big question is are those the matches where Kith needs the extra help.
Eldorath in its current state and with the card spoiled in next pack it has all the answers and can recover from mistakes too easily. Eldorath should be the odds on favorite at Gen Con by a very large margin at this point.
Hello, this is not a troll post. I just very new to the game.
How do you effectively play Incubus Warrior? I guess you need to really have initiative if on a planet where a battle starts.
Is it mainly used for battle because of the 3 attack or is it mostly depending on situation and you sometimes use it for winning command?
The main thing I use Incubus Warrior for is winning Command. If I can get them on planets that I will have initiative on, they become good combat units too.

Top 8 was 5 Kith, 2 Worr and 1 Eldorath
List looks very familiar... JK. Gratz on getting that far and yeah im finding wildrider squadrons with attachments to be an issue lately.
