I don't think so. Check Omega's guys;)

yea let's see 2 resources against 3 , 3 attack against 2 , 1 defense + 2 (transfer multiple times even) against 3+ 1(until end of phase on deploy once) . So based on the economy of the nids atm and the general combat unit's you have at your disposal  the only useful thing omega's squad can do is snipe a 1 defence cap unit on deploy phase and maybe on ambush kill something and swing. Ambush is not stable atm and since you need even more resources to deploy units for command phase and also have resources for combat the ambush genestealers becomes even harder tactic to play. On the other hand OOE's squad is good, end of story, no dependencies no nothing. Plus you can play regeneration on it and make it one of the strongest openings in the game for 3 resources and 2 deploy moves. While regeneration is a no go for omega.  when we are discussing competitive builds consistency is number one and OOE squad wins there. Maybe when playing with your friends or in small tournament you will find omega's squad more appealing and fun but in a 5-6 round swish  with top 4 or top 8 you need consistent units that will do good every time.

Tyranids are not even close to be competitive (top tier)  but maybe OOE is getting closer to that with every GOOD card that comes out. Still tyranids need like 3-4 really good cards in order to compete consistently.

You mention the calamity combo ? can you explain a bit more about how this works in this deck ? I'm curious as I feel nids need all the tricks they can

Sure, basically you calamity on HQ returning all the small to the player's hand leaving the bigger units on board. The biomass sacrifice allows you to discard any of the units you won't be needing anymore to boost your resource pool and play your bigger units whole your opponents can't really come back that easy after you returned them their units on their hand since they wont have that many resources. The combo works as a reset mechanic that allows you to re arrange the board and maybe even reinfest   a planet with Scything  to deploy you Hapry and win that battle. This build will most probable include some backlash to protect your elites from terror klaivex and fury of Sicarius.

You main strategy will be to go for resources in the early rounds and play calamity to reset the board and get resources from biomass.

More resources mean you can use them for the new almighty attachment Factor.

There can be Several variation to this list according to a players game play but from my experience the calamity biomass is really strong in the current meta with kith and worr dominating the tournaments. If the meta swifts to more heavy decks then maybe consumption will be viable with swarm lord who knows.

Tyranids need more command units in order to be able to play with SWP synapse and be even more aggresive but for now Liktor is your best choice for this strategy.

I'm not the OP but I've played a very similar build that had a few more elites, but it included calamity and biomass sacrifice.

The 'combo' is you playing Calamity, then playing Biomass Sacrifice to discard your units for cash instead of having to replay them again.  Usually, in the later stages of the game, replaying cheap command capper units is much less important than having the cash for beefier combat units and combat tricks.
