Tau Eldar
Experimental Tournament Quality
Greetings Everyone!
I do not have any information about the size of playgroups in different countries, but i assume that the one we have here in Hungary (about 30 players) is a small to medium sized one. Unfortunately only 18 players showed up to the event due to various reasons, so try to look at the results with the numbers in mind.
Some backstory:
My first competitive Conquest event was the Store Championship, back when Aun'shi was a new warlord. I got to second place there with him, but after some more play i started to really dislike the playstyle. I am a midrange player at heart, i cannot stand trying to make combos and synergies work. I dabbled a bit with Space Marines and won a Spring event with Cato, but i also dont like to play with decks that are popular, cause playing mirrors is horrible.
After the release of Baharroth i started to play mostly Eldar. Sadly Baharroth is not really top tier, but Eldorath is, so i was happy cause i thought i found a warlord that is decent but not all powerful. This created some backlash, and made me realise he kinda is. Here comes the deal though, when playing Eldar you only have access to 6 cards with double shields on them, so i got used to not always having 2 of them in my hand. A pretty nasty practise started to appear in my playgroup (again i dont really have any information if this practise is universal, i like to build my own rogue decks), that for most players, no matter what cards do with double shields, they are included in the deck. I felt that this watered down the experience, cause players didnt really think about using them efficiently, due to their abundance.
So came the revelation, that if players use cards that hit the prestigious level of binder extraordinare without double shield icons, then i should bring them the experience of playing with those cards, while i get to discard the ones i have as shields.
Interesting sidenote: Aun'shi was the most played warlord at the event, which was totally unexpected, but i tend to find that LCG players like to show up with rogue stuff.
My record was 7-1, only losing to a Kith player who i just cannot beat, but a fellow Aun'shi player has done the deed i could not, so we had a delightful 10 minute long mirror in the finals.
***IMPORTANT!!!***
Since i cannot expect anyone to read the rant above, here are the things you should know. This deck was built as an effort to metagame against a specific group and i think only worked cause of how small the group was. Dont expect to take this deck to a 40 player tournament and roflstomp your way through everyone (even if thats how the deck works, it is high variance, with not a lot difficult decisions). Regular Aun'shi players may have different opinions and say that the deck is crap, which it might be, but i am not one of them. I find this warlord to be unhealthy to playgroups in high numbers, cause it denies interaction and tips the scales. Never using any shields is just as bad an experience as having half of the damage you do shielded. Shame on those, that terrorize other players with this warlord, who just want to have fun with some random deck on weekdays.
I played against:
2 Packmistress Kith (3 games total)
2 Captain Cato Sicarius, Master of the Watch, Knight Champion of Macragge, Grand Duke of Talassar, High Suzerain of Ultramar
1 Eldoarth Starbane
1 Shas'aun'shi
1 O'Shaserra
The deck all in all performed well and the 7-1 record is nice, but the important thing here is that in games where you dont have sideboards, deck choice is a lot more important, as it has to stand against the whole fiend, but when that field is skewed, finding the right angle should help a lot.
It was noted during breaks that i built and played this deck differently compared to others. I tried to play this deck as a fair midrange deck and plan A always involved trying to win command strugles and trading resources. If plan A didnt work then plan B was about killing the enemy warlord in unfair ranged skirmishes or chasing it to any planet, which i assume is the common practise with Aun'shi. Have to add that i have not played with, against or seen Aun'shi in months, which is probably for the best.
Is this deck one dimensional and kinda dumb?
It absolutely is!
What are the advantages of playing this deck?
Games usually last 10 minutes, so you can go at it again!
Do i recommend this deck?
Not really if you have a lot of Chaos and Orc players in your playgroup.
Will i play this deck again?
Highly unlikely.
Then why did i write all this crap?
Well, it won me a tournament and was an awesome experience!
Thank you for reading!

Congratulations on the win, and thanks for the long explanation. And yes, I did read it all, as I'm sure many others will!
As for finding the right angle, this is great in its perpendicularity!
Hey I love the long wright up. Thanks for the detailed creation.
