Any way you would update this deck now with more recent cards?

I haven't had time to test it - so many cool things right now - but I definitely want to see if I can get Smasha Gun Battery to work.

Yeah, I can't believe no one has posted a Smasha Ba'ar Zul deck yet.  Turn one Smasha can bloody Zul while hurting the opponent badly.  I haven't tried it myself yet either, but it seems like it's worth a try.

Of course Ba'ar Zul has been labeled as the "worst Warlord in the game" (prematurely I might add), so not too many people are experimenting with him right now.

Kingsley's article on him is probably telling: Not as bad as you think.

Smasha Gun seems interesting, but a 3-cost support is rough both from a tempo standpoint and in a meta with more support hate.

(...) Turn one Smasha can bloody Zul while hurting the opponent badly.  (...)

Some initial planets setups allow You to use SGB on 1st turn.

But it sounds a little bit to risky for me. Ba'ar Zul with 3/11 can win a planet, for sure. But without some support he cant survive to mid game.

btw. im curious how Kingsley will fit 2 copies of SGB in this deck. Will SGB replace Slaanesh's Temtations? I don't think so.  But the Ammo Depot does not look essential...

Oh, I agree on both points.  Zul is better than people think, and the Smasha is an iffy call.  Interesting though, and worth some experimentation.

As far as Zul being better than people give him credit for, I think it's just because he's not easy to play.  You can't play him like a normal Warlord, and I think a lot of people are having trouble figuring out how to be effective with him

I quite agree with Koz's assessment. Ba'ar Zul is much better than most people think, but he also requires you to play him very differently from other warlords and to be sensitive to different sorts of things in the game. I suspect many people try him, don't do well (since they haven't adapted to his style) and give up, not realizing that if they stuck with him they would find him stronger than they were thinking.

How did you approach games vs. Eldorath with him?

I've gotta so far behind on command that he just swamps me.

Aggro, get bloodied early, win fights, watch out for Isha. Eldorath is very advantaged before you get bloodied and often quite disadvantaged afterwards, since he's often reliant on control effects that don't work on warlords.

You make it sound so easy. That whole "win fights" thing is the one spot I have trouble with when playing him.

The key (according to this deck at least) is to play more cards from your splash faction than from your main one. lol.

I think the key to playing him is to actually NOT bloody him as fast as possible, but to use him for free shields on your other units and save him to dominate the mid-late game after he's bloodied.

Kingsley, what do you think about adding Outflank 'Em? Seems like a fantastic combat trick to get another turn.

Could definitely work. I haven't had time to test it here but could easily see it at 2x - perhaps replacing the Ammo Depots, which don't fit as well into Ba'ar Zul's game plan.

Congratulations on the win! Great to see Khorne in the winning circle. I hope this encourages players to try different Warlords out more.
