Astra Militarum Space Marines
Aggro
Is it finally time to crush things with the tanks of the Imperial Guard? I mean, Astra Militarum?
Warlord
Order by: NameTypeCost
Total Cards: 0
The idea behind this deck is to crush your enemies with really tough to kill vehicles. Adding the Dozer Blade to any of the Vehicles in this deck can make them a real beefy machine. Make them a Bodyguard after they get the blade and make cunning use of your Rockrete Bunker to keep everybody alive longer - especially against a strong swarm deck. The Hellhound's AOE is your saving grace against things like a Khymera swarm. The Sanctioned Psyker and Iron Guard Platoon are there to help you win command struggles. A secondary strategy is there with regard to AM support cards like the Catachan Outpost and the Inquisitorial Fortress. You can search for them with the Enginseer and benefit from them with the Infantry Conscripts - basically a walking tank themselves. Bodyguard the Conscripts if necessary. Lastly, Muster the Guard is here to help make your tanks cheaper. It is likely you won't be attacking with Straken much anyway so use him as a blanket resource bonus. The Imperial Bunker is there for the same purpose - making your tanks cheaper. The goal is likely to win three planets, but don't count out the occasional Warlord death because you can always beef up your tank's offense with the Catachan Outpost to hit someone so hard that shields will be irrelevant.
Sample Hand:
Total Shields: 0
Average Shields Per Event/Attachment: 0
Total Command: 0
Average Command Per Unit: 0
I really like the idea but even with Muster the Guard your probably limited in use of playing X quantity of Vechicles.
Muster the Guard can be a great card if your able to spam all kinds of 2 cost bodies who can also win Command but I like it much less with a multitude of 4 drops in which you actually gain "less resources" from Muster the guard.
Still 3/5 because I like the idea and feel it might become viable eventually with more 2-3 Cost Vechicles. For sure Steel Legion Chimera will help it out (altough it's unknown to which pack it belongs).
Yes, it has the potential to be very slow...and there does exist much targeted removal in the game already. But it is certainly flavorful and it can be VERY intimidating to have several tanks roll up on the line for your opponent to deal with. Perhaps I should add Promethium Mine? The deck begs for more resources AND it's another support to use with Enginseer and Infantry Conscripts...hmm...
Promethium Mine, yikes... it's a play first turn only card and it's limited. I'm going to build a new IG deck tom, but right off the bat if you're building a vehicle heavy deck while having problems with resources, and it sort of looks like your deck does, I'd toss out those four cost Infantry Conscripts. I'd also suggest if anything to add a third Auger since you're running a support heavy deck and a third Preemptive Barrage. You'll want all three in there.
I initially thought that Muster the Guard was a great card, however, after play testing with it, I don't really like it. An exhausted Strakken is a bad Strakken IMO.
I'd also suggest picking either Bodyguard for the shields or Rocket Bunker but not both. Also, 13 supports is a lot of support units, that while useful, will also burn out you're resources in an expensive deck.
IMO, and I don't mean this negative at all, but your deck seems to be trying to employ too many different strategies at once instead of focusing on one or two. If you want to run vehicles, than you'll be better off with Pirates or Traders at certain planets which will give you a better return on the investment scooping up resources and cards rather than the Mine.
Thanks for the feedback - I play tested it some and you're correct in that Conscripts are too expensive for the deck and I cut out the Promethium mines and the Enginseers as well. I'll post up a new version soon, but the modified version worked very well!
Good idea, but in my opinion it is not good to deny all Straken abilities (command squad are the only soldiers). I would take 6 vehicles and some soldiers. I would also throw conscripts.
