Typical AM tricks with new solid Ork units.
53 cards, shouldn't be a problem with Coteaz.
After much deliberation, I've decided that if I want to do a warrior/soldier rush deck that it is much better out of Straken. Coteaz feels like a mid-game combo warlord to me. Here's my next iteration. I gave up the Cadian as he just doesn't do enough damage. I also decided to give up the Staging Ground (Heresy!) and thus cut back on some of the 2 drops and instead upped the curve and brought the Ammo Depot back in.
Card Choices:
Events:
I've committed to using Preemptive since it works well with Coteaz. Also To Arms! for extra shields and potentially more damage from Catachan or another card from an Ammo Depot. Snotling Attacks to help Coteaz command snipe.
Support:
Going for a mid-range deck, I think 2x Catachan are enough.
Inquisitorial Fortress to help deal with big threats.
These make up your command units. I've found Coteaz doesn't really like command units without attack values. Snotling attack helps to mitigate this, but you can't always count on one early. If I find I'm getting my Snotling Attacks early you could swap the Rogue Traders/Void Pirates back in. This latest iteration would like the extra resources from the Rogue Trader, but I'm not sure it's worth also losing the Tallarn/Ratling.
3x Snake Bite Thug 3x Coteaz's Henchmen 3x Enginseer Augur
Snake Bite is a great planet 1 bully. Evil Suns Warbiker came out without the Staging Ground. Have to take the Henchmen. The controversial pick here is the Enginseer Augur. I put these in instead of the Elysian Assault team. Not sure if they are worth it yet. If I switch back to the EAT, I'd probably drop the Inquisitorial Fortress and maybe add back in some other units.
These are probably the best big units that AM has to offer. I suppose going this route, there could be some big Orks worth including but many of the good options are loyal.
Attachments:
Only 2 Promotions in this build. The deck is at 36 hammers which feels pretty strong. I don't know what I'd give up to get the 3rd back in. At this point a Sanctioned Pskyer or Shoota Mob maybe the best thing to take out for them.
I think 2x Mordian Hellhound may be worth the include to get some AOE in the deck. I could lose 1 Assault Valkyrie and 1 Steel Legion Chimera to slot in 2 of these.
Also, the Infantry Conscripts look like an interesting alternative in this deck to the Assault Valkyrie. With supports and the Enginseer to find them you could grab one of these early. The downside is that if you're going for a 4 resource drop at planet 1 on the first turn he's terrible.
