Worlds 2015 Zarathur

I'm not going to Worlds this year - but if I were, here's what I would be playing.
Warlord
Order by: NameTypeCost
Total Cards: 0
This deck does well against more or less all comers.
While your command is notably weaker than many decks, given only eight one-for-ones and three two-for-twos, you compensate with the alternative economy and deployment stall provided by Ammo Depot and Promise of Glory.
This deck's combat, on the other hand, is far stronger than most decks. Your wide array of direct damage options lets you deal with threats on your own terms, often before they even get a chance to attack.
One important note for playing this deck (and Zarathur in general) is that the deck is quite sensitive to timing. There are many situations where you'll want to be taking actions during the command phase, during the combat phase but after battles conclude, and so on. As a result I don't recommend this to newcomers.
That said, if you're used to the somewhat complex timing and know when to play defensively to avoid being bloodied, this sort of Zarathur deck is very strong.
Sample Hand:
Total Shields: 0
Average Shields Per Event/Attachment: 0
Total Command: 0
Average Command Per Unit: 0
Interesting. Seems to me that you've reacted to pressure on deck space by going down to 26 unit cards (-RT and VP), whereas I stopped at 28 and started losing events instead. I couldn't say which approach is more is sensible.
Sad to hear you won't be taking it to Worlds, coulda used a top player representing this under-rated warlord.
I don't think Shadowsun or Ku'gath decks are serious enough threats to justify playing Ecstatic Seizures, which IMO is a bad card under normal conditions.
As for why I'm not attending, I have a work event scheduled at the same time that I think will be substantially good for my career progression. I might well have gone to Worlds anyway, but the lack of any public statement from Organized Play with respect to the GenCon cheating situation made me less enthusiastic about the prospect, and I ended up deciding to go with the work event instead.
So you're down to just Depot and the Thug out of the Ork alliance.
Correct. Both those cards are key to the deck, though - Depot provides awesome economy, while Thug is a great two-drop and can contest planets without Zarathur there, unlike most of the rest of the units here.
What are your experiences with the Ork Kannon free deck? It seems quite a big change in the structure of the classical Zarathur build. Does the addition of Sowing Chaos substitute them well?
Intereating... why put back the Kanons? and remove Sowing Chaos?
Kannons: cheap, action, persistent, moderate harm to your own units (possibly onto ones, that allready did their job, or you would sacrifice anyway), basically interact with Zarathur's ability the best way possible.
Soving chaos: deploy action, you can trigger it 1-2 times per match (without concerning its effectiveness), basically anti-synergistic with your whole cardpool, but can be game changing once in every thousand years.
In my opinion kannon still rocks! If soving chaos is really that necessary I would take out 1 temptation for 1.
(But I would also be curious about Kingsley's - and others- experiences.)
Oh no, not at all... I use it and I like it, just not with Zarathur, especially not in such a cheap deck, where in my opinion the kannons are a pillar of the strategy.

"I'm not going to Worlds this year"
That's unfortunate.
Thanks for sharing, I've been curious to know your exact decklist for Zara since it looked a bit different from the other ones I've seen around.
I suspect it would perform very well. It's a shame you couldn't make it.
And here I thought you would be playing Shadowsun
Nice one indeed. But what about Ecstatic seizures? Wouldn't you miss it against a Shadowsun or Kuggath deck?
Why not go? It's a loss for the whole community and Chaos.

I'm currently testing:
-3 Ork Kannon
-2 Khorne Berzerker
-1 Warpstorm
-1 Heretek Inventor
+2 Sowing Chaos
+2 Ravening Psychopath
+2 Noise Marine Zealots
+1 Xavaes Split-Tongue

Any reason for that random Xavaes? Just for the command?
It also survives Sowing Chaos and can therefore contest blue planets and generates tokens once the event hits.
ahh fair enuff
hows the testing going for this with the addition of sowing chaos?

Kannons work well with Sowing Chaos. They delay without increasing your own vulnerability to Sowing Chaos and are still very impactful during kombat.
Kannon has a combat action while Sowing Chaos is a deploy action. No delay here.
I mean deploying the Kannon.
Ah, alright. Not really a synergy though
