Hey everyone,

So it has been a long time coming but the new deckbuilder is ready to use. I'm going to go over it a bit to show the improvements and changes.

First up a few small details. The new deckbuilder is redone from the ground up and as such it wasn't feasible to copy decks from the old system. I also can't guarantee that older browsers will work flawlessly. I always suggest using the latest version of your preferred browser. I like Chrome but anything recent will do. There are alot of old saved decks from over the past 4 years (over 90 thousand), many of them totally out of date. Because of this I'm going to be modifying the old deckbuilder soon to only export old decks as text. They can then be imported in the new deckbuilder under the import tab by copying and pasting the decklist. This should be a fairly painless process but I do ask that you only import the decks you actually want to keep. Eventually these old saved decks will go away and things will just have to be built from scratch. The other thing that is different is that some people had over 300 saved decks. I totally understand the need to have many decks saved to try out different ideas but having that many is excessive. So I've put a limit of 50 saved decks per game for the time being. Hopefully this will be enough and the number could be adjusted in the future but I think it is a reasonable amount that will encourage people to delete old decks they don't actually want. And lastly the old submitted decks section is being archived, the new decks section will not be cross posting the decks to the forums as this just caused confusion. The new submitted decks section has alot of new features though so I hope people will like visiting it.

So on to the good stuff...

The first and most notable change is that all card searches are done completely in your browser now. What does that mean you ask? Well it means that getting results back for your search is virtually instant now. When you first go into the new deckbuilder page it will download the full Game of Thrones database and cache this file. The file is about 200K zipped up but if your browser doesn't support zipped files it could mean a slightly longer initial download. For those of you with larger monitors the new widescreen layout will let you see your searches happen instantly as you change the search criteria:

new-deckbuilder-wide.jpg

The widescreen layout will allow you to see more of your deck at a time and see your search in real time.

For those of you on smaller monitors things will collapse to give better views.

Medium view:

new-deckbuilder-medium.jpg

Compact view:

new-deckbuilder-small.jpg

Next up there are 2 views for card records, if you want to see more on your screen switch from the full to compact view to remove the card icon images. You will also note that you can add 3 cards at once directly from the card search.

compact-view.jpg

There are brand new non-flash graphs and it will show you if there is possibly a restricted card issue with the deck.

graphs.jpg

Perhaps one of the most confusing things about the old deckbuilder for new users was saving and submitting decks. I've tried to make this more intuitive by giving each action its own section. When you click on Save it will allow you to fill out the deck information, pick some pre defined tags and it gives you one of two options. Saving as a new deck will add it to your saved decks as a new entry, but if you have loaded an already saved deck the update existing deck button will be usable and will automatically update the deck.

deck-save.jpg

The load and delete saved section will show you your saved decks and let you get rid of them, load them or generate a private link you can share with a friend so they can see your deck without you having to submit it to the site.

saved-decks.jpg

The submit section lets you review any of your saved decks and send them to our submitted decks section. Deck approval is no longer necessary so whatever you submit will be immediately visible.

deck-submit.jpg

The new submitted decks section is split up by house still but it has some additional filters when you are viewing a houses decks to try to find what you need. Note that the deck version is automatically tracked so as long as you are submitting the same saved deck, every time you submit a new version of it the system will increase that counter and show it. Whenever a deck is saved it also has to be specified as joust or melee and you can filter each houses decks by that.

submitted-decks.jpg

The submitted deck shows a sortable list of the cards in the deck, with export options and two different views

The new submitted decks can be found here: http://www.cardgamed...f-thrones-decks

For those of you who play the other LCGs I'll be rolling out updated versions of all the deckbuilders over the next few days!

Darksbane, Let me be the first to thank you. This is absolutely amazing.

But you forgot to mention something else too; Fire Made Flesh is updated for the builder now!

Thanks a lot! It looks beautiful

I've been playing with it a little, so far i found that the restricted cards list for joust is wrong. There are some cards that should not be there, and some missing. (and melee list is also wrong)

And when I export a deck to Octgn file (.o8d) when I try to load it in octgn it says the file is corrupt (and won't load anything at all).

It's beautiful, thank you! Two questions: how can we get our old saved decks back (it's alright if we can't), and is there a way to sort cards in the decklist?

Awesome work Darksbane! Will the old saved decks be available again or are they gone forever?

This is like Christmas morning, only better because I had no idea it was going to happen. I probably haven't been this excited since my daughter was born several months ago.

Everything looks great. Thanks Darksbane.

My only complaint is that I still have to click "search" after typing in each card name instead of just hitting Enter on my keyboard.

Also, FYI, the deckbuilder link at the top of the screen still directs to the old one.

I will also add that the octgn files are not loading for me either.  I get a file corrupt dialog in octgn when I try.

Really enjoy the new deck builder.

Not sure how much feedback you'd like to hear as I'm sure you're very aware of anything that's going to be mentioned but here's a bit.

Love the real time population of typed results. I hate that when I have the browser half page that those populated real time results are gone. Not sure about anyone else but I would almost rather have those real time results than the larger view of the card. Not sure how possible it would be but potentially you could cut that middle section in half with the result population high (with a scroll if needed) and the larger card print low? I dont know about anyone else but I often build with the browser half sized and another window open. The cached population also gets around the issue of enter not applying the search. I had initially thought on my first use that "enter" was working and I was totally stoked, then of once I realized it was real time I was even more excited.

Second, are the graphs working correctly? I built a deck and, assuming I'm reading it correctly, it says I have 10 cards on the bar graph?

What does clicking the pie chart do other than graphically pull them out? I assume it's supposed to change the bar graph information.

Also, it would be nice if the pie charts had the number included with the percentage (22 locations / 31% of deck)

Anyway, fantastic work! As a newer player I think you've accomplished a lot of your goals in regards to making things clear and understandable.

Edit: Also, it looks like you're pulling restricted data from possibly 2 FAQs? Bear Island, Aegons Hill, Knight of Flowers, No Quarter, etc. are listed as restricted joust

Will there ever be a way to save which sets are selected so I don't have to click which ones I own or am looking at every time I use the deckbuilder?

I'll look into the octgn issue, I've likely got something wrong with the format or something. Restricted cards I'll work on fixing tomorrow. must have missed a faq or two :D

There is a link to the old deckbuilder up top in the deckbuilders menu (very bottom). You should be able to view your old decks there and export them as a text file to import them again.

There is no way to sort the decklist.

Everything looks great. Thanks Darksbane.

Hitting enter while in the text field will now trigger the search (you'll likely need to refresh the page to see the change).

There really isn't a good way to get both the decklist and search to be the larger view in anything but the widescreen version. In the medium view I could change it to have the search results expanded instead of the decklist if that is what people would prefer though.

The x axis (bottom) of the column graph is your cost or strength, the y axis (left side) is the number of cards so the higher the bar the larger number of cards you have for that value of strength/cost. Looking at it like this shows your strength and cost curves. Clicking on the pie chart just highlights that slice, nothing more. I'll see what I can do about getting the number on there.

Will there ever be a way to save which sets are selected so I don't have to click which ones I own or am looking at every time I use the deckbuilder?

That is beyond the scope of what I can add at the moment, but I'll relay the request to FFG so they know it is desired.

Fantastic! My excitement knows no bounds! Now to test this out on a tablet today!

It can be alittle slow on the oldest tablets (Ipad 1 and 2 generation) but it runs like a dream on my ipad air. Also on tablets I increase the size of the add/subtract buttons to make them easier to 'click'

I added in a max card limit tonight, basically if you hit the max of a single card in the deck it won't let you add more. So generally 1 each plot (2 power of plots), 1 each agenda, 3 of everything else. It isn't exactly enforcing deckbuilding rules but it does prevent small mistakes

The new deckbuilder is awesome. The only problem i see, is that the cost/character cost/strength graph definitely doesn't add up right. Each of my decks only show data for ~7 characters.

Took a closer look at this and I found and I think fixed the problem (might need to refresh to see changes) The only problem is I'm not sure it will fix any existing decks. I'll look closer later to see if I can get a fix going for that.

Hi Darksbane,

Loving the new builder! Many thanks for getting it up and running. I just noticed one small issue that no-one else seems to have raised - the 'sample hand' function cannot be refreshed as it could in the old builder. This makes it a little fiddly to look at multiple sample hands for your deck. Any chance of bringing back the refresh button?
