I was 2-0 up when my oppo won this story so I had to give one back but he didn't as he hadn't won a story other than the dreamwalkers card, is that right?
This is a common mistake, but it has been addressed in the FAQ (pg. 17 of FAQ 4.0, Section 3.4 "Story Totals"). The same rule applies to The Well and Village of Ash.
Thanks, I've just read that in the FAQ's it would have meant I only needed to win one more story to win the game instead of two!
But what is the purpose of triggering the effect if it means you lose a story card too?
It is helpful for decks that have slow starts but build in strength as the games goes on.
Against a fast deck that gain stories early but starts to run out of steam in the later rounds you hurt their chances of sneaking in a final story to win the game. At the same time your board presence is growing in power so you'll be able to win back that lost story easily.
Depends on whether you think your deck beats your opponents in the late game. If you're sure, it might be worth it to prolong the game. Same goes for millings strategies of course.
so for me as a rush deck I should go for this one first to stop my opponent triggering the cards effect?
There are a few story cards that can hurt a rush deck, and yes this is one of them. Other story cards effects to look out for are those that remove/rearrange success tokens and discard your hand.
yeah there was a story that did that in today's game so I had to let him win that one and not go for other stories or he would have just wiped them out
