To answer your question though, not that I have seen, though it would be hard in a joust I would think.
It is very difficult to lose 3 challenges and still be able to declare at least one challenge when your opponent can see this guy on the table. Few things come to mind:
1) High initiative to let your opponent go first every round. It's not really abusing Areo, but your opponent will have to be extremely cautious while picking his battles.
2) Find a way to drop this guy during the challenges phase... I can't think of anything though.
3) Find a way to force your opponent to win against you. Now this is not that easy, but can be done for sure. I don't believe you can make him attack you, however with Lady Genna (CbtC) and either Margaery Tyrell (AToTT), Rhoynar Emissary (AHM) or naval mechanic1 you can declare 3 INT challenges and make your opponent win every one of those. To make this work, you may also need a way to give your opponent characters INT icon and possibly Spiteful Bastard (VD) or a non-kneeler.

1) I still hate that naval enhancements allow your guys to join fight on the wrong side
In joust, not sure it's very usable. In melee, especially with supporting titles, it shouldn't be too hard to lose 3 challenges. Especially if you aren't the one paying claim.

Finally I have an idea for this card. For 1 influence you can give him the naval icon, which makes him able to jump in any battle, on ANY SIDE! And there you have it! The most desired lose a challenge by 4 STR
It opens some options like Areo Hotah, Sun Stroke, The viper's rage. Ok, still not a 5 point card, but maybe a little better than 1 star.
Only problem is the additional Influence cost...
I'm not sure that participating in a lost challenge declared against another person constitutes you losing the challenge as well. Can anyone clarify?
It does not. Only if he is using the supporting titles to block (and still lose) an unopposed challenge against another player will the Martell player be considered to have lost that challenge. Also, I actually think the naval text doesn't allow you to get into challenges that you are not a part of. I seem to recall that, but not 100% sure there.
You are correct Sloth, naval is only for challenges that you yourself are involved in
