Extra draw in targ is always nice and he pairs with meraxes in a nedly way.
Yeah, because you know, he totally isn't in a house that can BURN their chump blocking character to death......Sorry, its just that he doesn't need stealth or anything. Think about the house he is in. Go ahead, block him with a chump blocker and then watch that chump blocker die to a Incinerate. Now you win your challenge, go search for a Flame Kissed, attack on a military challenge, after you opponent defends, you burn their claim soak with the Flame Kissed that you just got. I don't see how you can say he isn't that good when he is in a house that can do that pretty easily every turn.....Besides, you could just as easily win a military challenge, put Khal into play, attack power, stealth a character, jump him in after defenders are declared if any at this point. Thats still 6 str coming on a power challenge.
Not that I'd say that he's a bad card, just that he's in tough competition. Honestly, for a burn deck at the 4g slot I'd much rather run: Viserion (QoD), The Brazen Beasts (ARotD), Daenerys Targaryen (GotC) or even Company of the Cat (THoBaW) for that matter.
Why? Since they all help mitigate some of the deck's weaknesses, and also bring better stats to the board.
- Viserion helps with the lack of location control
- Brazen Beasts help with the deck being slow (all burn, but especially KotHH decks)
- Dany gives you a 4-STR intrigue (burn decks need to be careful to have enough intrigue, losing your hand just won't do) icon with renown and helps your Street Waif (AToT) stay alive through Threat from the North (PotS)
- the Company gives you a 4-STR intrigue icon as a surprise + a card pretty much guaranteed (instead of having to rely on your opponent not being able to control the challenge to not be a 4 STR win).
Honestly, the reason Ser Barristan Selmy (TftH) isn't run that much in Joust, is that he's pretty easy to control and Burn is too resource-tight to run many 4g's. I don't see how that's much different for Groleo? If there's one thing about Groleo that I don't like, it is the complete anti-synergy with Black Sails. Do the math: Start with a 60 card deck, split it in two. Now, 7 cards in hand + 4 cards for setup + 2 cards for draw on first turn. That leaves you with... 17 cards in your draw deck. Assuming that you have 10% attachments in your deck (6 out of 60), you'd have on average 1-2 attachments left in your draw deck the moment you first could possibly trigger Groleo. Not much to choose from... And that's assuming you drew into him first turn. This will not get much better by increasing deck size, since you will have to be extra careful with not having too many setup cards.
Really, if pushing 4 STR challenges was easy for Burn in KotHH, I'd still run Flaming-Pitch Tower (TWot5K) instead, since it can hit those hard-to-burn (No attachments + high STR) targets.
I am unclear though, do you have to reveal the attachment? The card doesn't say you do, but that opens a weird door in competetive play if you have to take someone's word in a big tournament. I would assume you have to reveal.
