The sort of inefficiency you expect out of Martell Naval, I guess. There are less playable cards out there, but between ally-hate, running out of influence, and paying three for a card that is at best a tricon, I'd avoid this even in a naval deck unless I had no other choice.

The ally trait is enough to prevent him from going in any of my Martell decks: if I had to play 3 for someone who'll get discarded soon, i'd go with Areo (RotK).

Definitely a token naval character but just enough to make BS a viable build.
Terrible card. Paying 3 for a guy with no icons is just ridiculous.
Why Martell? This huy could come in handy in any other house, who can benefit from naval stuff. But Martell?
I think the wording here ("choose 1 icon") is kind of weird. It could be taken to imply that the icon has to be in play (or on a character in play, I guess). Whenever we're asked to "choose a character", for example, it is always assumed to be one in play, not just any possible one.

Not every choice has to be something printed and in play. There are other abstract choices such as with Before the Black Walls (VD). Without challenge types being defined by cards in the game, we understand there are 3 challenge types, just like we understand there are 3 icon types. And now that I re-read that card text I see it is "name" instead of "choose" sooo... lol.

Finally I have an idea for this card. For 1 influence you can give him the naval icon, which makes him able to jump in any battle, on ANY SIDE! And there you have it! The most desired lose a challenge by 4 STR
It opens some options like Areo Hotah, Sun Stroke, The viper's rage. Ok, still not a 5 point card, but maybe a little better than 1 star.
