Even in joust this is going to cost 4.

4 gold for a character with 2 icons, stealth, deadly, and the army and knight keywords is great!

Then use him in melee decks...

If i have him in my hand to begin with can i place him down in setup for free if i have 5 opponents?
No, as the text won't apply in setup as you are not playing it.

I dont agree. In setup wont apply only effects at playing & putting into play. FAQ (2.1)

Your language here is unclear, but the cost reduction only kicks in during marshaling when you can "play" the card. Placing cards (and revealing them) during setup is neither considered playing or putting into play as you already pointed out.
