Probably a total noob question but does this affect Ambush? I got House of Pained earlier and this has synergy with my custom officers too so it would be a big bonus.

I dont think so just because this game goes by classifications, and ambush is a keyword which are different from triggered effects.

Actually the rules state that ambush is a triggered Any Phase action

Which means that yes, Janos Slynt works against ambush.

On the surface he looks great vs. targ, but at 3 Str I'm pretty sure the Targ player will be very happy to pay 1 gold to kill him. I doubt he would last much longer than a turn or two, then you are no better off than before.
