If a defender does not kneel to defend, can you remove them from the challenge?

Yeah, had this conversation recently over on the Rules Forum. Much like Frozen Outpost, a standing character can still be chosen by this effect.

For the sake of specifics, it is because there is no "then" in the effect. This means the standing doesn't need to be successful in order to remove them from the challenge.
