This Bran is one of the great Shagga cards of the game. Cycling through your plots as fast as possible opens up all sorts of power effects; most often from the City plots, but soon also from the River plots it appears.
If I use his ability before revealing plots, and I get out something with a "when revealed" effect that lasts one round, for example Mutual Enemies (Core). When I reveal the new plot just after this does that effect still count?

i believe that Ktom said that the plot creates a lasting effect regardless of it getting changed but i will wait for Staton to correct me

You're correct Jack. Same thing would happen with Feast or Famine (KotStorm). If you are able to play this card first and decide to add +6 gold to your marshalling phase and then changed it to something else with Bran, you will still get your +6 gold at marshalling but you will also not be able to initiate attacks regardless of your new plot. It's like a contract, once it is set it doesn't matter if the card is still revealed or not.

1. Does the "lasting" effect apply to Initiative and claim?
2. If the text of the first plot lasts until next turn, what happens if The Tides of War (RoW) is the first plot?

I will defer to Staton if I'm wrong but, as I understand the rules:

1. No. Whatever's on your card when the numbers matter (beginning of Marshalling, when Claim comes due) apply. Otherwise, you'd have conflicting numbers whenever you played multiple plots in a round.

2. ToW's text can only be in effect until it is triggered or you reveal a new plot card. It does not create a lasting condition (compare to ME which specifically states its effect lasts until the end of the round).

Correct. Tides even states that it is in effect until you reveal a new plot. So it is only in effect while revealed.

There is a player actions window before and after the entire Plot framework where you are able to trigger Bran. If you do this before the standard plot framework, your gold, initiative and claim of your chosen plot are irrelevant. The when revealed text of that plot triggers, which keep in mind opponents can use saves/cancels and responses during this player action.

Then provided everyone is done pre-plotting, the plot selection and reveal framework begins.

As for initiative, initiative is counted during this standard reveal phase of the plots. Highest initiative is determined and first player is chosen. Then plots "when revealed" effects resolve in order starting with the First Player.

You can also trigger Bran's effect after the standard plot framework. If it has a "when reveal" text, then that triggers (with the chance for saves/cancels/responses) and play procedues as usual. As this will be your revealed card during the marshalling phase and challenges phase, this is the plot you would refer to for gold and claim.

In regards to the lasting effects, even if the card doesn't say it, it is likely only to last as long as it is in play. An example would be Shadows and Spiders (LotR). This challenges restriction only applies as long as this card is revealed. As soon as it's replaced, the effect no longer stands. The difference is, with cards like Mutual Enemies (Core), you choose an oppenent. Then neither of you can issue a military challenge. The trick is it clearly states "until the end of this round." So even if this plot is covered up, the contract has already been made and it's effect doesn't go away until the end of the round.
Wow. GoT is the first game I've played where the text can be very confussing when you see cards for the first time. Thankfully, it also has an amazing player base who are willing to help. Now everything makes sense. Thank you both for the replies.

Can Bran prevent form the effect of the Valar Morghulis plot?
He cannot. This is due to the explanation slothgodfather gave above in regard to another question, in that there is no player action window in the middle of resolving plots. Therefore, all the plots would have to resolve before you could use Bran.

In addition, as he has no means to negate the when revealed effect of a plot, he could not prevent Valar Morghulis, or any other when revealed text of a plot.

Thanx for Your post NuFenix. If I understand if he had "Response" he could prevent that effect?
Unless he said cancel, as all framework events trigger, then passives and then responses. So even as a response, Valar would happen. But you could use Outwit when you think they would play Valar, cancel it with a Learned character, and then use Bran to switch to a more offensive plot. Personally, i would try him out with the City plots, as you could get some good effects off.

Okay one last question, as slothgodfather wrote:

So... If my last unused plot would be Valar Morghulis (and I don't want to kill all my characters;) ) I cannot use Bran before the standard plot framework to switch that plot with other one and save them from beeing killed?

Thanx in advance.
You could use Bran in the player action window pre plot reveal to switch to Valar, but valar's when revealed would still trigger and kill all characters. You're still revealing the plot with Bran so its effects trigger.

Thanx a lot Darksbane and NuFenix.

Darksbane You wrote that I can switch plot to Valar but can I switch it to something else? You know Valar is my last unused plot so now can I use different plot from the whole 7 plots? You know switch to for example Calm over Westeros and not to reveal Valar? (Valar is in my deck)

I know that I am pain in the ass...Sorry if it is obvious for You guys...
If your question is:

"If I choose to reveal a new plot after my 7th plot card is revealed, can I chose to reveal any of the other 6 plots I got?"

Then: Almost correct (as far as I know). When the last plot card is reveal, your other plot cards become available again - just as if you would have revealed it normally. However, the last plot card you reveal is not available for the second rotation, so you would not be able to reveal Valar again, only any of the other 6.

@Angarde - whether you use Bran to reveal Valar before or after the normal plot reveal mechanic, or if you choose to reveal Valar as your normal plot - in all cases Valar is revealed and will go into effect. The plot resolves full (The kill effect initiates, everyone has the opportunity for saves/cancels, characters not saved or immune are killed, those dead are removed from the board) then you are able to move on to the next action.

If Valar is your only plot in your used pile, you MUST choose it for your next available plot. Then it remains in your used pile and the other 6 go back to your available plot pile. However, this does mean Valar is used and it's kill effect still resolves first before you are able to switch to a new plot.

Thanx a lot Laxen and slothgodfather :D You helped me a lot.
No problem at all :)

And I believe that slothfather meant "If Valar is your only plot in your plot deck, you...", just to avoid any misunderstandings.

Ah yea. Always a typo somewhere.
Also, a small correction to some comment above: "when revealed" effects take place in the order determined by the first player, not starting with the first player. They are not necessarily in order, at least insofar as I understand it.

So, I can use Bran's effect AFTER my Valar Morgulis is revealed and choose another plot, even though all characters will be killed?
No, because it's a separate action. If it was a Response: ability, it would work, but Bran is moved to the deadpile before there's a window to trigger his ability.

If you plan on using VM, then just use Bran's ability during the player action Window that is before "select and reveal" plots. So you flip into Valar, clear the board, and then move on to regular plots.

Hi guys, i'm new to this and would really appreciate your help sorting out these questions I have!

*Can I use Bran's ability to change the plot card of my opponent before he reveals it (for example, knowing that he has a VM)?

* If I decide to change my plot card, before/after it is revealed, does the card go back to my plot deck/discard pile?

*If I have a card with a copy of itself attached to it, and VM is triggered, both of them die or just the copy?

Thanks in advance!
