So...When I play Varamyr can I cancel his effect and as result I would have Varamyr and the Creature on the table?
Yes, as putting the creature into play is the cost.
Thanx NuFenix. Do you think that this opportunity was done on purpose? I think that someone missed that, because cancelling the effect is much more powerful...
Yes and no. You need to be combining this card with creatures, which narrows down the choices considerably, as that is mainly Dragons and Direwolves. Then you need some means to cancel the effect, otherwise you will be discarding the creature at the end of the turn. And finally, you need the creature. So with the amount of pieces involved, it isn't that amazingly powerful. Plus with a strength and cost of 2, there are plenty of ways to kill him off, so he may only do the trick once. And as he is unique, you won't be able to play another one.
If you the creature you "put into play" is Balerion the Black (RotO), would this trigger his response where you have to "play Balerion from your hand"?
No, because you didn't play him, he was put into play. It is only played if you paid gold for it during the Marshalling phase.
