They get discarded since the chain attachments read "maester character only" when the character is no longer a maester the chains are not on a legal target and will be discarded from the play.
My opponent was running these in a melee game last night. Absolutely maddening, since every time I took a poke at him, there goes all my Dragon synergy. I even cost myself Bodyguard and Copper Link, since herp derp, there go the Lady and Maester traits.
The icon is only a requirement to be declared as a participating character. Once the character is already participating, it doesn't matter what icons it has.
What happens if he blanks a unkillable dragone then plays no quarter... is the dragon still blanked during the response phase?
The dragon is blank during the challenge. Responses to winning the challenge is still within that same challenge window, so yes - they are still blank during the response step.
What exactly gets blanked with this card ? Does the character lose Crests, Traits or Keywords ?
All the ink in the text box is blanked. That includes traits and keywords. It does not include crests or challenge icons; they are not considered part of the text box.
