Can I choose an opponent's standing character as target to stand, then choose my knelt char to stand mine?
You could choose an opponent's stnading character, but then you couldn't stand one of your own. The 'Then' in the text means that you must choose AND Stand a charcter before any of the text after the 'then' can resolve. Since a standing character can't stnad, if you choose a standing character then the effect didn't fully resolve, so everthing that comes after never happens.
