What is the exact timing of Valar and Crane's ability to save a lord?
Does he die before or after having the chance to kneel an influence and save a lord character?

Thanks!
- Valar is revealed;
- Save/cancel window - this is where you'd save characters using Crane's text (and also where other saves like duplicates can happen, as well as the window in which you could playOutwit (TIoR));
- Valar's effect initiates - all cards not saved become moribund:dead pile;
- Passive window (stuff like Golden Tooth Mines (Core));
- Regular response window (stuff like Frostfang Peaks (TWH));
- Moribund cards leave play going to their stated destination.

So the short version: you can save Lords via Crane's text from a Valar, even if Crane himself dies.
