Let's say in theory that you played a limited card during marshaling and then won a challenge with these dudes and activated their response. You could put another limited into play since you aren't technically "playing" the card, correct? The wording for limited states that you can only "play" one limited card per round.

Enrico is right. The rules make a clear distinction between playing a card from hand and putting into play. As you said SpiderMonkey, the wording says you can only "play" one card with the Limited keyword per round, so the Warrior's Sons will allow you get around the Limited restriction somewhat.
