Wow, this has to be the most convoluted event I've seen. Doesn't seem that great, though, as your opponent can choose whatever benefits you the least. It'll be hard to find a spot where you really benefit from all of the choices.

It's not convoluted, is it? It's interesting. They may *know* the top 3 cards and decide to go with less than that. More likely, though, is they gave all your raiders +1 str and deadly until the end of the phase, which likely means that if they defend, they are losing at least one character to deadly. I think this card could be really sick, actually. Consider this: You kneel 4 raiders in a military challenge with a claim 2 plot out. You play this card. They have to decide: Discard 1 and stand all those characters, discard 2 and have your opponent claim 4 power plus unopposed and such if it's going to happen, or discard 3 and all the chars are now deadly and +1 str!? The opponent will likely choose to discard 2, but they can't do that every time or you'd just freakin' win. I think this card makes raiders viable and powerful, if not the best deck around.
Maybe convoluted isn't the right word. But it's definitely one of the most odd events out there. I admit it can be interesting in the right situation. I still feel it doesn't give me enough control over the situation. When I choose an event, I want to know how it will benefit me so I can plan accordingly. I'll still experiment with it, though. Maybe it's better than I think. Part of the problem is that I think that the Raider theme for Greyjoy is not really where it needs to be to make for good and consistent decks. And the new Raider cards I've seen spoiled so far are not alleviating my concerns.
It's a bit tricky. If you use it before any challenges, your opponent will just discard one card, and nothing will happen because your raiders are already standing.

You have to maneuver your opponent into position before using it, making him face some sort of damned if you do, damned if you don't type scenario. For instance, you have 2 power challenges this round, and you have a third of your characters knelt after the first challenge. He is now given the choice of having all of them stand for another attack, having all your raiders claim power (which could win you the game), or be boned by the rest of your characters, now all having deadly and +1 str.

@Boerta - you can still have them be boned *during* the current challenge. That's the beauty of it. You can just play it as a regular action during the challenge itself, and then none of the three options is particularly satisfying.
Yes, the best moment to play it is definitely in the player action window after defenders are declared. That's when your characters gaining deadly can really hurt.
How does this work with Motley Crewman? I guess the effect of the event is still decided by what the opponent "chooses" and Motley Crewman simply discards an additional card but not changing the chosen effect? In any case, I love this card, and many other Greyjoy cards coming in this cycle! Greyjoys gonna be getting its discard back on!!
Yeah, it would key off what he chose, not the actual number of cards discarded.
I don't like cards which leave decision in my opponent hands. Theoretically all 3 options are good. In each they discard 1-3 cards which discard deck will benefit, and all three give us quite good rewards. The only problem here is that this is opponent choose so we need to think carefully when to play this card. I agree with you that the best moment to play it is after declaring defenders as we need to decide to either stand all raiders to allow them next challnege or defend or give each of them 1 power or deadly and better STR to kill one of our defending character. Rating is between 3 and 4, I gave 3 as don't like leave decision out of me.
