I've been wondering if this effect is still bound to the draw limit of 5 cards each round. Same as Grand Maester Pycelle's (AHA) effect.
Also, can I still discard the Cards if my Opponent has no more Cards in his draw deck?
I think this Card deserves more credit. Especially with "the power behind the throne" Agenda and Pycelle (AHA).
Since being "replaced" not "draw" it doesn't count towards the draw cap. I agree it isn't quit as bad as some people think, however, it is still way to bad to be in a real competitive deck.
You may use the effect to discard cards even if the opponent does not have the cards in his draw deck to replace them with.
It's the randomness of it that kills this card. If you could look at the hand and discard up to 3 cards before replacing them, more people would be willing to take the gamble that the cards you throw out would be better than what you replace them with. But since you have no control over which ones are revealed (and therefore eligible to be discarded), the event feels too much like it is simply time consuming, rather than ensuring some sort of card advantage.
Well, once I played with lani power behind the throne against a bara player with black sails Agenda. I had the game of thrones plot revealed with Pycelle (AHA) out. That meant I was able to discard 2 card for claim (2 intrigue challenges) and up to 6 cards thanks to Pycelles effect. Including without his beard in my deck, I could have discarded 11 cards from my opponents deck in a single challenge phase => that would be almost half his draw deck!
Well, it is about as much card advantage as Greyjoy gets when discarding card cards from the top of a player's deck.
The question isn't whether or not this event has uses. It does. It's whether or not having this event in your deck is worth leaving out things like Condemned by the Council or Terminal Schemes. Are those extra 3 cards, which get replaced, worth it in comparison to the effects of other events?
Edit: Actually, it's a card for card, so not exactly card advantage, but it's usually better deal for you than your opponent.
I think it works well enough against Martell, but there are better options for your event slots.
