Would this circumvent the Limited restriction because it's being 'Put into play'? I feel like I've read that here or in the rules before, but wanted to confirm. Thanks.
Yes. The "Limited" restriction only applies to cards that are marshalled/played. "Put into play" effects do not check it.
The Shadows rules (both the separate insert and the section at the end of the FAQ) explain how to determine the "printed cost" of a shadow card. Essentially, a printed cost of "sX" is "2+X". That means the printed cost of all shadow cards is at least 2 (s0 = 2 + 0 = 2), so a shadow card can never be put into play with this card.
