I suppose this will get errata'd once some big cost/high strength army characters enter the card pool.

This is a card that will go from (almost) unplayable in the Core set to superb once we get some armies or Lannister cards that have "come into play" effects.

Don't quote me on this, but I would say the first player chooses which effect to resolve first.

Just quoted you on this, and yes, you're right.

What happens if the character I put in play is a duplicate?

Hear Me Roar says: "<...> if that card is still in play, discard it from play". A duplicate is a card in play, do you'll have to discard it.

Same wording on I Never Bet Against My Family. See, devs are smart! ;)

Has anyone come with some viable strategy on how to use this card? Meaning tournament viable?

I tried to find any good use for it but the only ok option was to use with Clansmen (instead of even worse one Attack from the mountains). It could also combine with Tower of the Hand and Hand's Solar but the requirement to have all those at one time is clunky to use. Certainly not tournament quality.

There are no Lanni characters with "enters play" ability - only "when ambushed" or "when marshaled", except only one - Ulf... this seems to me btw like some ironic joke from devs.

And same limitations goes with Never bet vs my family and Harrehal. But maybe I'm missing something. Does someone experienced any deck where this card actually worked?

It works in any Lanni Deck with the hound. But of course better in Harrenhal/Tower Clansmen builds. When I play this, my opp even use THJ to cancel it ;)

I'd say there's plenty of tournament viable decks running Hear Me Roar. See here.

Hound is obvious target but you can't run that event based on 1 character. Also Hound is not suitable for any Lanni deck, like in Clans there is no place for him.

And I also checked those decks on Thronesdb and in none of them is Hear me Roar (+derivatives) essential part of the deck. Those decks are good because Lannister have several good (OP) cards like Treachery, Tyrion or Tywin. Not beacause of Hear me roar.

I thought maybe I'm missing some nice combo.Maybe to use it with Tyrion's chain and 2x Reinforcements plots with 4-5 cost characters exclusively (giving place for 1st snow, March and Duel). But it's all clunky as hell. Until Lanni have some reliable discard manipulation card this event is borderline useless...

Hear Me Roar is vital in this deck: http://thronesdb.com...klist/view/4094
That deck exploded the meta in its time.

After Tower of the Hand and Harrenhal were released, Hear Me Roar was sometimes used for consistency in Jumper decks, depending on how much you wanted to rely on jumpers (sometimes Harrenhal was enough).

Right now there's a Turbo Cersei deck that uses 3x Hear Me Roar and would love to go to 6x, since this event is better than Harrenhal or INBAMF for its game plan.

Hound goes at least 2x in any deck with Harrenhal, including Clansman. He's just that good.

That deck mentions Tower (of hand) in its description but there is no such location in its list. Also it contains all the best Lanni cards( holy Trinity=Tyrion, Tywin, Treachery etc). I understand that with Tower it could be a good combo. I was more interested on using Hear me roar without the need of dedicated location if such exists.

What do you mean by Turbo Cersei deck? Is it about using LoCR Cersei to ambush her, do her thing and then leave? While I agree it is a nasty way to trigger the Rains Agenda, it is the inability to keep points on that character what bothers me the most on Hear me roar.

That deck was invented before the Stark box (that contains Tower of the Hand) was released. That deck won without the Tower, just by jumping in big guys, winning challenges, and killing chars via events. Yeah, it wouldn't work without Tywin, Tyrion, and Treachery. But what's your argument here? did you want a deck that runs this event but no classic Lanni core cards? You wanted a deck with 2x Reinforcement? Well sorry, i don't know of any. I do know of decks built around Hear Me Roar though. And yes, they run Tywin, Tyrion, and Treachery. You take strong chars from the deck, it cannot do anything. You take Treachery away, it cannot protect Hear Me Roar from Bran. You take Hear Me Roar and INBAMF away, you cannot afford to marshal your big guys. All parts are equally important - that's what makes it such a beautiful design.

Any 1-turn jumper tech is much stronger with a return-to-hand effect - either Tower or LoCR Tyrion. You CAN build a deck around Hear Me Roar and no return effects, as evidenced above. But return effects really give you a boost.

And there's plenty of things you can do with a free big character, even if it doesn't stay on board.

My point was that these decks would work well even without Hear me roar. I'm trying to gasp the idea of its utility. Because at 1st sight to me it looks like bad deal to give 2 cards for 1 time effect.

However studied closely that last deck from Buzz I realized its strength. I noticed it runs Crossing and 2x Counting coppers which makes it so effective combo. It practically means that a pilot of this deck can wait and adapt a strategy to be the most effective in current situation on the board. Also he is running all important characters 3x. So he can marshal important characters and then jump around to react on opponent or to surprise him.

I was also concerned on how to deal with card draw, but lately Lannister received several new cards to deal with it as well.

Anyway thanks for the tips, I stand corrected on this card.

That deck wouldn't be good without Hear Me Roar, it just wouldn't have enough money to marshal its expensive characters.

Yesterday I watched an online play that someone used Hear me roar with Jaime and LoCR Cersei to get 15 points in single turn.

It went around 2x Counting coppers then Annals of Castle black. Meanwhile playing Tyrell Songs to stack the draw pile and Dragontails to draw cards. Small council chamber + multiple Lanni treasuries and Tourney grounds for economy. Then 2x Hear me roar -> Jaime + Cersei, Relentless assaults + Lannister always pays his debts for multiple challenges. It sure looked effective. I wonder whether it could be so successful in tournament though.

This is the Turbo Cersei deck I mentioned above. It's pretty good :)
